Accused of hitting his girlfriend Priya Singh with a car
On December 11, 2023, Ashwajit Gaikwad and his friends allegedly invited Priya Singh to a party at the Court Yard Hotel in Ovala, Thane around 1 am, after which she left the hotel. According to Priya, upon reaching the venue around 3 am in the morning, she saw Ashwajeet with another woman, who was reportedly identified by others as his wife. Despite Priya’s many attempts, Ashwajeet refused to talk to her. Along with this, his friend Romil Patil allegedly misbehaved with him. When she requested Gaikwad to intervene and stop Patil from abusing her, Ashwajeet allegedly responded by slapping and strangulating her, biting her hand and forcefully pushing her away. Reportedly, after the assault and argument with Ashwajeet and his friends, Priya Singh went to collect her bag and mobile phone from her SUV when the men assaulted her. According to him, initially he tried to hit him with the SUV car (Land Rover Defender) from behind near the divider. They then came back and deliberately ran the vehicle over its right foot before rapidly leaving the location. As a result, he reportedly suffered injuries on his stomach, back and arms and his right leg was injured. He was admitted to the ICU at Infinity Hospital in Thane. Ashwajeet Gaikwad along with Romil Patil and Sagar Shelke have been booked at Kasarvadavali police under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 279 (rash driving), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and others of the Indian Penal Code. In an interview, Ashwajit Gaikwad denied all the allegations of Priya Singh and said that this entire incident was an attempt to extort money from her. they shared,
Whatever is portrayed is untrue. She (Priya Singh) is just a friend of mine. She came to a hotel in an inebriated condition where I was attending a family function and pressured me to talk to her. When I refused, she started abusing me. When my friends tried to intervene in the matter, he beat them up too. When my driver Shelke started my car so that it would move aside, it fell. The accident was not intentional. This is nothing but a way to extort money from me. I have given him money before and I have all the records.
