Prashasti Singh is a famous Indian stand-up comedian, writer, actor and improviser. His style of comedy is genuine; A genre of comedy that is inspired by the comic’s own experiences which may be true or partially true but embellished. Prashasti came into limelight when she made her digital debut with the Amazon Prime series Comicstaan (2018).

Prashasti Singh was born in 1987 (age 33 years; as of 2020), and hails from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. He did his schooling from Delhi Public School RKpuram, New Delhi. Subsequently, he studied Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communications from Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology, Delhi (2005–2009). Later, he earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (2012-2014).

In 2009, Prashasti started her career as a Business Technology Analyst at Deloitte Consulting. After working for a year and a half at Deloitte Consulting, in 2012, he started working at Dell, where he held the position of Senior Analyst. Later in 2013, she joined P&G as a marketing intern. In June 2014, she started working at Star TV Network as an Assistant Marketing Manager and by July 2016, she became the Category Head at Star TV Network.

Before venturing into stand-up comedy, he worked as a category head at Star TV network for four years. While working with Star TV, Prashasti attended an improv class ‘Break the Monotony of Corporate Life’, where she met friends who encouraged her to try her hand at open mics. In 2018, he made his debut in the Indian stand-up comedy competition television series Comicstaan. Although she could not win the show, she gained a loyal fan-base.
Subsequently, in 2018, Prashasti was part of Amazon’s marketing campaign for the Prime Video series ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’. Various female stand-up comedians were assigned to present a short stand-up program wearing ‘Mrs. Maisel’ outfit, and promote the upcoming series.
In 2019, she appeared in the MX Original series, Kiski Sarkar, which featured various comedians giving their humorous views on political news.
In 2020, Prashasti starred in Netflix’s all-women stand-up special ‘Ladies Up’.
Controversy
On 31 December 2019, Prashasti uploaded an old picture with Bollywood celebrity Sidharth Malhotra on her Instagram account. In the caption of the picture, she addressed Sidharth as a waiter for wearing a formal black tuxedo with a bow, which is a common dress code for waiters. Sidharth’s fans as well as his fans criticized him for behaving rudely not only towards Sidharth but also towards the waiters.

- Prashasti was a topper during her school and college days. She grew up as a daddy’s girl, and she also credits her father for her inherited humor. In an interview, he revealed that initially, his mother did not support his decision to get into stand-up comedy, but Prashasti later convinced her.
- Coming from an engineering and MBA background, Prashasti had to leave Hindi and master her communication skills in English, but her comfort zone always remained Hindi. When comedians like Abhishek Upmanyu and Zakir Khan broke the language barriers by doing stand-up comedy in Hindi, it opened a path into the world of comedy for Prashasti. In an interview he said,
My natural language is Hindi. So when these boys broke the barrier of talking in Hindi and expressing their thoughts in their favorite language, it was a huge leap in my mind – that thoughts are more important than language.
- Apart from being a renowned comedian in the comedy circuit, Prashasti is also an incredible storyteller. In 2019, Prashasti surprised the audience after her performance at ‘Spoken Fest 2019’. Talking about his parents he portrayed them as ‘superheroes and sidekicks’. The emotional, vulnerable and yet funny story of Prashasti’s mother becoming a superhero after her father passes away left the audience enthralled.
