Pixar Elementary will have its world premiere in Cannes Film Festival 2023 on May 27.
The animated film will close the Cannes Film Festival 2023.
Disney and Pixar Elementary is an original feature film set in Element City, where residents of fire, water, earth and air coexist. The story introduces Ember, a tough, witty, and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, cheesy, go-with-the-flow boy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in.
Leah Lewis voices Ember and Mamoudou Athie is the voice of Wade.
“As we all emerge from our pandemic cocoons and gather in story rooms, animation journals and impromptu brainstorming sessions, it is a joy and an honor to have Pixar back on La Croisette,” said Pete Docter, director Pixar creative. “Directed by storyteller extraordinaire Peter Sohn, Elementary It’s a lot of fun, full of heart, and, frankly, awesome to watch. “It was created for audiences to experience on the big screen and I love that it will make its world premiere in Cannes.”
“For many years, the Cannes Film Festival has hosted animated films from all over the world,” said Thierry Frémaux, general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival. “Pixar animation studios, with Above—directed by Pete Docter—made Cannes history by opening the 62nd edition of the Festival in 2009. It was a wonderful event! This is another great opportunity to present the incredible Elementary at the closing of this 76th Cannes Film Festival and think about our lives in such a powerful way.”
A trailer for the film was released last month. Elementary opens with the new Pixar short, Carl’s quote.
Elementary will be released in theaters on June 16.
Johnny Depp’s comeback movie Joan of Barry is set as the Cannes Film Festival 2023 opening night movie.
