Johnny Depp Mentions False Stories About Being Boycotted, Says It’s All ‘Horribly Written, Fantastic Fiction’

Johnny Depp talks about being boycotted by Hollywood.

During the press conference for his new movie, Joan of Barryin that Cannes Film Festival 2023 Out in France on Wednesday (May 17), the 59-year-old actor opened up about the events that followed his lengthy libel trials involving his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

After the trials concluded at the end of last year, many fans, critics and his peers in Hollywood boycotted any future projects of his, as they opposed domestic abuse.

While speaking with Deadline, Johnny opened up about whether he felt the effects of a boycott of his work.

The outlet refers to an interview he did to Sunday time in 2021 about the boycott.

“Did I feel a boycott from Hollywood? Well, you wouldn’t have to have a pulse to feel at that point, ‘None of this is happening, it’s just some weird joke or I’ve been sleeping for 35 years,’” she said. “Of course, when they ask you to stop a movie you’re making, because of something that’s nothing more than a bunch of vowels and consonants floating in the air, it feels like a boycott.”

Now, Johnny says he doesn’t feel one at all.

“I don’t feel boycotted by Hollywood because I don’t think about Hollywood,” he added. “I myself don’t have much more need for Hollywood,” he added. “I think it’s a very strange and funny time where everyone wants to be themselves but they can’t, they have to align, conform and if you want to lead this life, I’ll be on the other side.”
