livelihood
Pranjali Awasthi started her company Delv.AI while interning in university research laboratories. He was accepted into the September 2021 HF0 Residency where he launched his product. His responsibilities included conducting searches, data extraction, and preparing literature reviews. In 2020, when OpenAI unveiled its ChatGPT-3 beta, it recognized its potential to promote and enhance research data extraction and summarization. Although Delv.AI was in its budding stage, she was determined to establish a company that would use machine learning to extract data and remove data silos. His time at HF0 came to an end when he secured seed investment from On Deck and Village Global. Seed funding received in early 2022 enabled them to recruit their first engineer and begin work on a minimum-viable product. Throughout her fellowship, she was able to build strong relationships within the AI community. Additionally, due to her winning Product Hunt launch, these connections proved invaluable during subsequent fundraising efforts. She managed to raise $450,000 from a combination of funds and angel investors such as Lucy Guo and Village Global, resulting in a valuation of around $12 million.
Pranjali’s passion for social entrepreneurship began during her childhood in India. While visiting her farmer grandfather, she would watch him mentor village children on developing their artisan skills. She remembers the handmade fashion items she created as both chic and modern. Recognizing their global appeal, he planned to sell them without the interference of middlemen, who often took a large cut, leaving the creators with little money to earn. This inspired him to set up ‘Indic Valley’, an online portal showcasing these artistic creations. Pranjali’s ambition is to empower these artisans by providing them ownership and control over their work on this platform.
Despite challenges heightened by the pandemic, they successfully secured external investment. With these funds, she was able to assemble an initial group of about 30 artisans for her site, streamline the company’s structure, and straighten out logistics. Indic Valley offers a range of eco-friendly, handmade wooden bangles, shawls, shoes and more, originating from the heart of the villages of India.
