Colleen Ballinger is an actress, singer and YouTube personality best known for her role as Miranda Sings, a fictional character she created in 2008. She is one of the most popular online stars, active on YouTube for almost a decade. Despite being a skilled singer, she plays Miranda Sings as a woman with no talent who feels she is destined to become a star.
Miranda Sings is known for her narcissistic, red lips, thick voice, addressing “her haters” and bad singing with off-tone and out of tune. She is known for sometimes expressing inaccurate and offensive views. One inspired by real women in college performing her vocals as well as several YouTube videos of less talented individuals. It’s a spoof of many narcissistic singers on the popular streaming site, who record themselves singing while getting reviews.
In February 2008, Ballinger posted the first video of her fictional character, a version of Aretha Franklin’s Respect, on her Miranda Sings YouTube account, and she “never dreamed anyone would see it.” In fact, she was “quite surprised” when the movies went viral in 2009. The channel now has 10.8 million subscribers.
Trent, Rachel and Chris Ballinger, her three siblings, raised her in Santa Barbara, California. As a child, she wanted to be a model, but instead studied vocals at Azusa Pacific University in California to pursue her passion for singing and performing. She is often bullied at school. Her grandfather, who passed away in 2011, was “encouraged” by her concern. Ballinger was previously married to YouTuber Joshua Evans, but the couple divorced in 2016. In 2018, she married Haters Back Off co-star Erik Stocklin and gave birth to their son, Flynn Timothy Stocklin. She gave birth to twins Maisy Joanne and Wesley Koy Stocklin in 2021.
In her 14 years of fame, Miranda Sings had her own Netflix series (Haters Back Off), performed on Broadway, appeared on several late-night talk shows, and wrote two books, Self-Helf (2015) and My Diarrhea (2018), all written from her perspective.
She also became known for her own vlog channel, Colleen Ballinger, which has 8.75 million followers. The multi-talented celebrity has also performed in Ireland, Canada and Australia, among other places. She also appeared in London, Hollywood and Pennsylvania. Ballinger has an estimated net worth of $8 million. The actress will now play Miranda Sings on the upcoming episode of Generation Gap, which will air Thursdays on ABC.
