The creator of Italian stalls and restaurants, Mr. Beef Joseph Zucchero, also known as Joe Zucchero, passed away on March 1, 2023 at the age of 69. Eater Chicago first reported his death. Zucchero has been battling non-Hodgkin’s cancer for over 20 years, according to the story. Restaurant fans Mr. Beef was shocked to hear of his passing. Joe Zucchero opened Italian Beef in the River North area of Chicago over 40 years ago in 1979.
Joe Zuccher’s son paid tribute to his father on Instagram, while tributes poured in from around the world.
Christopher Zucchero, son of Joe Zucchero, shared an emotional Instagram message sharing a photo of Joe and writing:
“Today, a part of me, my family and Mr. Beef has disappeared. I am extremely fortunate to be this man’s son.”
Christopher went on to say,

Criminal Minds star Joe Mantegna also paid tribute to Zuccher, writing on Twitter that his wife surprised him on his birthday 35 years ago with a celebration led by Mr. Beef held in Chicago. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois also paid tribute to Joe. He wrote on Twitter:

On Twitter, the tributes continued to pour in, with many hailing Zuccher as a Chicago legend. Cooney Funeral Home also offered a tribute to Joe, who stated,
“Over the past 40 years, Joe has been able to grow his restaurant into a Chicago institution through his ability to interact with people from all walks of life through a shared passion for food.”

According to CBS News, a memorial service for Joe Zuccher will be held on March 11 at 9 a.m. at Park Ridge’s Cooney Funeral Home. Restaurant Mr. Beef recently rose to fame after starring in the popular FX diner thriller The Bear. Zucchero and his brother Dominic created the famous Italian kiosk. They started it in 1979 and offered cheap slow cooker burgers.
Restaurant Mr. Beef also had ups and downs and planned to close in 2009 due to bank debt procedures. However, they persist and are known for their quality food. Specifically, the beef sandwich of Mr. is considered one of the best and most famous food in Chicago.
