Hugh Grant Stated That He Dislikes His Legendary “Love Actually” Dance Move

Love Actually is definitely one of the highlights of Hugh Grant’s career, thanks in large part to the iconic dance his character performs in the song Jump. One interesting detail about the film is that the actor was “very upset” with the scene and reluctant to do it. The British actor told ABC News on flashback Laughter & Secrets of True Love: 20 years later that after reading the script, he “didn’t like dancing at all.” Richard Curtis, the director of the modern Christmas classic, agreed and joked that a “contract guillotine” forced Grant to shoot the scene.

Hugh Grant plays the newly elected British Prime Minister who is truly in love.

In Love Actually, the London native plays David, the newly elected British Prime Minister. He eventually falls in love with Natalie (Martine McCutcheon), a young Downing Street employee. The dance scene takes place after David appropriately responds to the President of the United States (Billy Bob Thornton) earlier in the day. In commemoration of David, the radio station broadcasts Jump by The Pointer Sisters (which won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 1985).

When he heard the music, the young prime minister plunged into an unplanned dance in the hallway of his official home. Natalie jumped in and interrupted him. This particular sequence of events has now become an unforgettable cinematic.

Grant describes the dance routine as “the best moment ever”.

When the host of the special, renowned TV journalist Diane Sawyer, asked Grant about the script, he replied:

“When I read it in the script, I thought, ‘Wow, I’d hate to do that’.”

The actor still seems to despise the scene, describing it as “the most harrowing scene ever made into a movie.”

He continued:

“To this day, many people, and I agree with them, believe it was the most harrowing scene ever filmed.” However, some people like it.”

Meanwhile, Curtis revealed that Grant “repeatedly said ‘no'” and joked that the actor was “grumpy” on the day of filming.

He stated the following:

“I think he was hoping I was sick or something and we would say, ‘Oh, what a pity, we’re going to have to skip that dance scene,'” she said.

He said watching Grant dance was “horribly awkward” but “he was just perfect”.

Grant, who made a guest appearance on the murder mystery Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, participated and noted:

“By the way, I turned off the clock. Especially when I moved my dick at first.

It should be noted that the fact that Natalie barged in and interrupted David’s dance was the actor’s idea.
