Greta Gerwig revealed some exciting news on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, December 1. The actress and director revealed she and boyfriend Noah Baumbach are expecting their second child. She told Fallon and the audience on stage:
“I’m pregnant!”
The audience cheered, and Fallon congratulated Gerwig for choosing his show to share the news. The Lady Bird director also said she planned to announce the pregnancy at another time, but “nobody cared”. She said that she was wearing revealing clothes, revealing “secrets”, but no one noticed. Gerwig had a three-year-old son, Harold, with his partner Baumbach.

While Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach first met on the set of his movie Greenberg in 2010, Greta Gerwig first met her in Hannah Takes the Stairs, which she co-wrote and starred in. lead role in 2007. The pair then worked together again in 2015 on Mistress America, which she wrote and co-produced with Baumbach. Gerwig starred in the film with Lola Kirke. The two continue to work together on other projects, though she denies being called Baumbach’s inspiration. In March 2019, the couple welcomed their first child, Harold Ralph Gerwig Baumbach, after Gerwig kept her pregnancy a secret while filming Little Women. Six months later, she announced the birth of her son by appearing with him on the cover of Vogue.
Despite the fact that the couple have been together for many years, they feel it is pointless to label their relationship. Gerwig revealed why no record label is active in an interview with James Corden on The Late Late Show, where he said:
“’Boyfriend’ implies that I only met him last week. The word lover is offensive, and the word fiance implies an impending wedding. As a result, none of them work.”
The duo have been in competition for an Oscar, with Noah in Marriage Story and Greta Gerwig in Little Women, but have not let any healthy competition get in the way of their friendship. Currently writing the script for another film, Margot Robbie and Ryan Reynolds star Barbie, due out in July 2023.
