The cut on her face that almost ended her career
Figure skating, no matter how beautiful it looks, is a very dangerous sport. On February 8, 2007, Dube cut his partner Davidson’s face with his skate. The incident happened while the couple was flying on a camel side by side. Both skaters must pivot side by side on one leg while the other leg is extended. That’s what happens when the razor-sharp blades, just one-eighth of an inch wide, spin at an incredible 60 miles per hour. Davison got too close on the third spin of the flying camel, and his skate clipped Dube just below the left eye.
It was a horrible sight to see the left half of her face cut open from her nose almost to her ear. The skater had about 83 stitches to hold her face together. However, she returned to skating after only 10 days. She had a terrible scar on her face at the time, but she didn’t want to be ashamed of it.
