Megan Danielle was born on November 25, 2003 to DJ Phillips and Monica Page. She grew up with her siblings: Kaila, Whitney, and Austin.
Before Megan began her american idol trip, she worked as a waitress at the Landmark Country Buffer alongside Monica, the family’s primary caregiver since her separation from Phillips.
Megan was 7 years old when Phillips and Monica broke up. Before the Top 20 showdown, the singer revealed that she blamed herself for the split. She stated:
“My brothers and I saw my dad leave the house. I blame myself a lot for my father’s departure. He made me feel a bit worthless, like he wasn’t a good daughter or even a good sister.”
Megan said she struggled to believe in herself after Phillips left. Phillips is an electrician who runs his company, Phillips Electrical, in Carrollton, Georgia. His bio on Thumbtack reads:
“I have 22 years of experience in all aspects of electrical, but primarily residential and small commercial. My primary focus is craftsmanship, quality, and integrity. Megan and Monica share a close bond. “Happy Mother’s Day to my unique mom!” Megan wrote on Instagram in mid-May 2023. “I am so thankful for this woman and all the support she never stops giving me! I love you mom. I hope your day is fabulous!”
Megan’s grandfather convinced her to focus solely on Christian music.
In her American Idol introductory video, Megan revealed that she spent most of her childhood in her grandfather’s auto shop. “My grandfather passed away about a year ago,” said Megan. “He was the most important person in my life.”
Megan credited her grandfather, Chuck Paige, with convincing her to focus solely on creating Christian music. She said that she fronted a band that played in bars and other venues. The concerts popularized her band, but Megan didn’t like to sing in bars, she added.
“I felt like I had to act like someone who wasn’t just so people would like what they heard,” Megan said. Chuck gave Megan the push he needed to leave secular music. Megan explained:
“He pushed me aside and said, ‘What are you doing, honey? This is not what you are supposed to do. Well, how can you sing for God and sing for this? And finally I decided to totally switch to Christian music.”
“Do it for him [Chuck] baby today,” Monica told Megan before american idol audience. “Yes ma’am. I will,” Megan replied. Monica said that she believed that Chuck was there for her. She made her entire family proud by finishing second in the competition.
