Tina Fey created 30 Rock back in 2006 after a long tenure on sketch comedy series, Saturday Night Live. It’s common knowledge that 30 Rock is based on Fey’s experiences on the long-running NBC series. Fey continues to have a good relationship with the SNL cast and often returns to host the show.
30 Rock amassed plenty of awards in its seven-season run and the cast is beloved and easily recognizable as their characters on the series. Many of the actors from 30 Rock are still working today, some even continued working with Tina Fey. Let’s check in on where the cast of 30 Rock is now.
Contents
John Lutz as Lutz
John Lutz, who played a character aptly named Lutz, was a member of the writing staff on TGS. On 30 Rock, Lutz was often portrayed as a lazy overeater. In real life, John Lutz is an accomplished comedy writer. Between 2014 and 2017, Lutz worked as a staff writer on the late night talk show, Late Night with Seth Meyers.
In the past, he was also a writer on Saturday Night Live for more than one hundred episodes. Lutz is no longer credited as a writer on Late Night with Seth Meyers but he continues to work on the program as an actor in various bits.
Katrina Bowden as Cerie
Cerie is Liz’s young and naive assistant. She was often portrayed as an object of lust for many of the male writers in the staff room. No one really knows how she got the job but she becomes a staple on the TGS staff. Katrina Bowden was only 18 at the time when she started on 30 Rock.
Since then, her career has stayed pretty low-profile. These days she can be seen on the daytime soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful. Last year she starred in one of Hallmark Channel’s Winterfest movies. She also has a thriller called The Orchard in post-production.
Keith Powell as Toofer
Toofer played another writer on 30 Rock from the TGS team. He was often portrayed as the straight man and less inclined towards the crazy schemes than other members. As for Keith Powell, he had a regular role on the short-lived sitcom About a Boy.
Since then, his career has fallen into something of a lull. Powell recently appeared on Lucifer after Netflix revived the series, he had a role in the fourth season. Powell also worked on David Arquette’s indie comedy pilot, Truck’d Up, but no information has come out in a few years about it, likely meaning the pilot was passed over.
Judah Friedlander as Frank Rossitano
As one of the most prominently featured writers on the TGS writing staff, Frank is known for his many hats. He usually wears a different hat every episode sporting some kind of joke or slogan. Judah Friedlander appears to be laying low in his years after 30 Rock. He hasn’t been featured in many prominent projects.
He did have a role in the series Bordertown and even a small cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Last year, he was featured in The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time. Friedlander has a role in the upcoming comedy romance film, Can You Keep a Secret? which stars Alexandra Daddario and Tyler Hoechlin.
Scott Adsit as Pete Hornberger
One of Liz’s closest friends is a producer on TGS, Pete Hornberger. He and Liz had known each other for ten years prior to working together on TGS. Like many of the other actors on this list, Scott Adsit, who played Pete, hasn’t really had another regular gig since 30 Rock but he has worked consistently.
Outside of 30 Rock, he is best known for being the voice of Baymax in the popular Pixar franchise, Big Hero 6. He continues to voice Baymax on the Disney cartoon Big Hero 6: The Series. He also had a recurring role on the HBO comedy, Veep. He has a role in the upcoming film, 10 Things We Should Do Before We Break Up.
Jack McBrayer as Kenneth Parcell
Playing the lovable redneck NBC page, Kenneth Parcell, is the accomplished comedian, Jack McBrayer. Once 30 Rock ended in 2013, McBrayer moved on to numerous other films and television series. While he hasn’t really had a steady series regular gig since 30 Rock, McBrayer has been working hard and is hardly ever without a project.
McBrayer voiced the character Felix in Wreck-It Ralph. He has also starred in eleven episodes of the Comedy Central series, Drunk History. McBrayer reunited with Tracy Morgan on the TV series, The Last O.G. Most recently, McBrayer portrayed Andy Warhol in the show Urban Myths and lent his voice to Our Cartoon President.
Jane Krakowski as Jenna Maroney
Once the sole star of TGS, Jenna Maroney’s life was thrown for a loop when Tracy Jordan was cast in the show! Jane Krakowski received plenty of acclaim for her portrayal as the loopy, self-centered, and materialistic Jenna Maroney. Krakowski continued to work with Fey in her post-30 Rock career.
She went on to play the leading role of Jacqueline White in Fey’s Netflix series, UnbreakableKimmy Schmidt. Outside of Schmidt, Krakowski has worked steadily in various guest and recurring roles. She will star as Mrs. Dickinson in the television series Dickinson along with Hailee Steinfeld, next. The series will follow the life of writer Emily Dickinson.
Tracy Morgan as Tracy Jordan
Tracy Morgan played the rival to Jane Krakowski’s character, Tracy Jordan. His character was a parody of his real-life persona in many ways. Tracy was the lead of the TGS sketch comedy show. In real life, Morgan’s career has been going through a resurgence as of late.
He presently stars in TBS’s The Last O.G. alongside Tiffany Haddish. He also recently starred in films like The Night Before, The Clapper, Fist Fight, and What Men Want. Morgan had a guest spot on Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone reboot that premiered this past April. Next up, he’s voicing Fox in an animated Green Eggs and Ham series.
Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy
Alec Baldwin was already an accomplished actor before landing the role of Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock. Nevertheless, the series did introduce him as more of a funny man than his previous dramatic roles lead people to believe. He played the Vice President of the East Coast Television.
Since 30 Rock ended, Baldwin has made waves doing a Donald Trump impression on Saturday Night Live. He also had a short-lived talk show called The Alec Baldwin Show on ABC. Currently, he has several films lined up such as a sequel to Boss Baby, Arctic Dogs, and a thriller called Blue Before Blood.
Tina Fey as Liz Lemon
Tina Fey is an accomplished actress, comedienne, and writer. She starred on 30 Rock, a show she also created, as Liz Lemon. On 30 Rock, Liz is the creator of the show-within-a-show, TGS, a sketch comedy series based on Saturday Night Live.
Fey used her own experiences on Saturday Night Live to furnish the story of 30 Rock. After 30 Rock ended, Fey went on to create another comedy series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, for Netflix. She hasn’t been acting in as many projects but she is still very active in producing and writing.
