Robot bounty hunter Belet Vallance is in the middle of a battle to protect the members of the Rebel Alliance from Dengar, who unexpectedly works with the Onaka Gang, still active after the Clone War. However, it has been confirmed that Hondo has not joined the cast for a long time, which is consistent with his presence on the show. During the Clone Wars, the Onaka Gang and their legendary captain, Hondo Onaka, terrorized the universe, an impressive crew of pirates that even clashed with the Jedi multiple times when they weren’t drunk in the pirate den. Charismatic and cunning, Hondo once nearly scored a huge score when he and his teammates simultaneously captured Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, as well as Count Dooku of the Confederacy.
However, Hondo also caused his people to get into all sorts of trouble, and once the Empire came to power, it seemed more than enough. Hondo continues to roam the galaxy alone, defrauding those he can and forming temporary alliances that involve profit, and he even appears in Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge. However, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter #10 Writer Ethan Sachs and artist Paolo Villanelli revealed his team continued to work without him. Although they are now led by a Scragg captain, they happily keep the name Onaka, perhaps because of the fame it earns across the galaxy. Thus, Onaka’s legacy lives on, although, ironically, Hondo has little to do with it. Also, it seems that some of the crew actually miss their former captain, although many do remember Hondo’s more problematic tendencies.
But things turn for the better – bounty hunter Dengar reluctantly joins the Onaka gang because he owes them a lot. After a bad evening with the crew, Dengar’s drink has been spiced up (which means he tends to bet more). Interestingly, Hondo caught Anakin and Obi-Wan by concocting their drinks during the Clone Wars, so it looks like the Onaka gang still has his old tricks up his sleeve.
Though Hondo Ohnaka is still alive, his legacy seems to live on without him, continued by the pirates he once led. However, the fact that the Onaka gang is still active makes one wonder if their former captain will manage to bring his crew back one day. Fans will have to wait and see if Marvel Comics has a hand in the ongoing story. Star Wars Continue.
