Celebrity chef DeVonn Francis will appear as a guest on Selena Gomez’s cooking show Selena + Chef, which is slated to return for a fourth season on HBO Max. The popular cooking show will premiere for three episodes on Thursday, August 18, 2022. The show will feature skilled chefs guiding the hosts through a series of fun summer-themed dishes via videoconference.
DeVonn Francis is a first-generation gay Jamaican-American artist who founded Yardy in 2017 to explore pieces of his history and culture. The artist combined his two loves, painting and cooking, to establish his studio and spread the word about the value of food and culture. Yardy employees pay homage to their roots by hosting Caribbean-themed dinners.
Three more episodes of Selena + Chef will premiere on August 25, followed by the remaining four episodes on September 1, for a total of ten episodes in Season 4. According to Deadline, the upcoming season “will be set in a beach house where Selena will continue to learn the joys of cooking with top chefs,” with each episode featuring a different charity.
DeVonn Francis has had a passion for cooking since an early age.
DeVonn grew up as an introverted child. He doesn’t like sports like his brother and prefers to stay at home with his mother. They will spend the day cooking together. After retiring from the Navy, his father opened his own family restaurant in Norfolk, Virginia, inspired by his childhood in Jamaica. Growing up in Virginia as the son of Jamaican immigrants, he despised being the kid who showed up at the high school canteen with a oxtail in his lunchbox. It wasn’t until he was a teenager, watching Food Network with his mother and working at his father’s company, that he became interested in traditional Jamaican ingredients and dishes.
DeVonn moved to New York City in 2011 to attend the Copper Union School of the Arts while still working in restaurants. His first restaurant job was at Estela, but he quickly realized he couldn’t do it during his school schedule. He then started serving tables at restaurants and developed strong relationships with the chefs, owners, and management.
Every morning, the chef goes to the market with the group to discuss the ingredients and he realizes that creativity and food go hand in hand. Shortly after leaving Estela, he embarked on a food tour in the UK with a friend.

They traveled to Scotland, England and Wales, cooking on farms and over open fires to better understand the impact of food production, starting with small businesses. Yardy was conceived in the summer of 2017 in New York, after DeVonn returned from the UK and officially launched in 2018. He has embraced his family’s values, culture and heritage by hosting salons in several locations, including Williamsburg, Saipu and Lee’s in Chinatown.
He talked to MYKIT about his studio and said:
“For me, it was important to make the Yardys more like a home, and that world coincided with my parents walking into the living room. The term “home” is important to me, as is the fact that the experience should be open and not institutionalized.”
After the outbreak of the disease, DaVonn started selling takeaway food from SoHo Smile to Go cafe and launched YouTube as a host on Bon Appétit’s popular Test Kitchen channel. Adrienne Cheatham, Rachael Ray, Gordon Ramsay, Kristen Kish, Ludo Lefebvre, Matty Matheson, Nick DiGiovanni, Paola Velez and Priya Krishna will join Selena + Chef.
