Shiva started his career in journalism in 2002. He worked as a senior journalist and covered defense related matters at the Indian Express for three years from October 2002 to March 2007. Shiva then joined India Today in April 2007 and worked as a special correspondent. Was senior editor for thirteen years before being promoted to executive editor in January 2021. Since June 2022, Shiv has worked as the Senior Executive Editor at India Today’s Noida, Uttar Pradesh branch.

Shiva believed that writing the entire book was the most difficult thing he had ever done. He wrote both fiction and non-fiction books and they were all about the army. In 2017, Shiva published his first book titled Operation Jinnah. This book is about a Kashmiri girl who is kidnapped. It includes various historical events such as the attack on Parliament and fictional stories about how the Prime Minister and the Chief of the Naval Staff handled it. It was appreciated by critics. Additionally, he has co-authored the book series titled India’s Most Fearless with Rahul Singh.

Online trolls, threats and abuse
In September 2021, Shiv Aroor faced criticism for sharing a video of Rahul Gandhi online. The clip shows Rahul insulting RSS chief Mr Mohan Bhagwat for not having ‘women around him’. After the incident, Shiva was subjected to online trolling, abuse and cyberbullying.
