Shiva started his career in journalism in 2002. He worked as a senior journalist and covered defense related matters at the Indian Express for three years from October 2002 to March 2007. Shiva then joined India Today in April 2007 and worked as a special correspondent. Was senior editor for thirteen years before being promoted to executive editor in January 2021. Since June 2022, Shiv has worked as the Senior Executive Editor at India Today’s Noida, Uttar Pradesh branch.

In 2017, Shiva published his first book titled Operation Jinnah. This book is about a Kashmiri girl who is kidnapped. It includes various historical events such as the attack on Parliament and fictional stories about how the Prime Minister and the Chief of the Naval Staff handled it. It was appreciated by critics.
