Ram Chandra Prasad Singh was born on Sunday, 6 July 1958 (age 64 years; as in 2022) in Mustafapur, Nalanda, Bihar. His zodiac sign is Cancer. After completing his schooling, RCP Singh joined Patna University, Patna to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in History. He then went to Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi to pursue a Master of Arts degree in International Relations.

Civil Services

After completing his formal education, RCP appeared for the Civil Services Examination and passed in 1984. In 1984, he joined the Indian Administrative Service, and was first posted as Joint Magistrate of Sultanpur district. Three years later, he was appointed Chief Development Officer of Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat. After five years, he became the Collector and District Magistrate of Barabanki, Hamirpur, Fatehpur and Rampur. For almost a year, RCP Singh was appointed as the private secretary of former Posts and Telecommunications Minister Beni Prasad Verma. He then served in the state government as Private Secretary to Nitish Kumar for about seven years, serving in the Ministry of Railways, Agriculture and Surface Transport. In 2004, Ram Chandra Prasad was appointed as the Additional CEO of the Greater Noida Authority, operated under the supervision of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. In 2005, Nitish Kumar was appointed as the Chief Minister of Bihar, and Ram Chandra Prasad Singh served as the Primary Secretary to the CM of Bihar. In 2010, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh took VRS (Voluntary Retirement Scheme) from the Indian Administrative Service.

Politics

After taking early retirement from service, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh started his political journey by joining Janata Dal (United) in 2010. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha and served as a member of the Standing Committee on Railways and a member of the Consultative Committee on Foreign and Home Affairs. He was appointed as the General Secretary of the party, and later, he was appointed as the National President of Janata Dal (United) from 27 December 2020 to 31 July 2021. During the reshuffle of Narendra Modi’s cabinet ministers, RCP Singh was appointed as the Union Minister of Steel on 7 July 2021.

On 6 August 2022, he resigned from Janata Dal (United) amid corruption allegations, for which the party had sent him a showcase notice.

  • Several media reports state that Ram Chandra Prasad was a close aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Reports also said that Ram Chandra took VRS on the advice of Nitish Kumar and in 2010 he joined Janata Dal (United).

  • Ram Chandra Prasad is known to be a calm and collected person, and other party members consider him ‘a man of few words’. He was given an important role in the party and was appointed General Secretary of Janata Dal (United).
