Raj Subramaniam was born on Thursday, 14 September 1967 (age 54 years; as in 2021) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. He studied at Loyola School, Thiruvananthapuram till class ten. He was an ICSE topper and moved to Bombay (now Mumbai) at the age of 15. There he passed his 12th examination from SIES Group of Institutions. Later, he joined the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1987. He became an IIT Gold Medalist and graduated from IIT Bombay in 1987. He went to Syracuse University in New York to pursue a Master of Science. in Chemical Engineering and completed it in 1989. After completing his MS, he decided to pursue MBA in Marketing/Finance at the University of Texas at Austin and completed it in 1991.

Raj Subramaniam is the son of retired Indian Police Service DGP C Subramaniam. His mother is B. Kamalammal who once worked as an anesthetist in a general hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Rajiv Subramaniam is his brother who works as an employee at FedEx in the United States.

Raj Subramaniam joined FedEx nearly 30 years ago. He joined FedEx in 1991 after completing his MBA as a marketing analyst in Memphis. His hard work and dedication earned him the position of Vice President of Marketing for the Asia Pacific region in September 1996, a position he held until September 2003. In September 2003, he was promoted to regional president for Canada. He held this position for two years and nine months after which he was promoted to the position of Senior Vice President. In February 2013, he served as EVP of Marketing and Communications, and in January 2019, he was promoted to President and CEO of FedEx Express. In March 2019, he was appointed CEO of FedEx Corp. Appointed as President and COO of. In 2020, he joined the company’s board of directors. With a total of 30 years of service to the company, he introduced transformational initiatives, grew the company’s e-commerce business and revitalized the company’s operational strategy for its digital transformation. With all these developments, he was eventually selected to become the CEO of FedEx Corp in March 2022. He was selected for the position after the company’s founder, chairman and CEO Frederick W. Smith decided to step down as CEO. FedEx.
Taking over the CEO position from Frederick, Raj Subramaniam is responsible for providing strategic direction to all FedEx operating companies, including FedEx Ground, FedEx Services, FedEx Express, FedEx Office, FedEx Freight, FedEx DataWorks and FedEx Logistics. He is also a member of FedEx’s Executive Committee which plans and executes the corporation’s strategic business activities. In addition, he also serves as a member of the FedEx Strategic Management Committee, which sets the strategic direction of the group. After being appointed as CEO of FedEx he said,
