Prashant Nair is an Indian IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer and film director. He is known for his experimental initiatives such as “Dayalu Kozhikode,” “Operation Sulaimani” and “Savarigiri” for poverty alleviation and city administration in Kozhikode.

Prashanth Nair was born in Thalassery, Kannur district of Kerala to the private secretary of KJ Alphons, Minister of State for Tourism (age 33 years; as of 2019). His childhood was spent in Thiruvananthapuram. He studied at Loyola School, Thiruvananthapuram. Nair obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, University of Kerala. In his childhood, he wanted to become a cinematographer but after completing his graduation, he started preparing for civil services. In 2006, he achieved #AIR 4 in UPSC exam and joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from Kerala cadre.

Prashant Nair belongs to a Hindu Kshatriya family. His mother was a professor in the Government Medical College. He is married to Lakshmi Nair and has a son, Amritvarshan, and daughter, Ammu.
livelihood
After passing the civil services examination, Prashanth became an IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer of the Kerala cadre in 2006. He was appointed as the Collector of Kozhikode, Kerala. Nair has held various positions in various sectors including taxation, tourism, water supply, roads and skill development. He has led two World Bank projects, “KSTP” and “Jalandhini”. He received public praise after taking innovative initiatives for poverty alleviation in Kozhikode. He initiated several programs during his tenure such as Tere Mere Beach Mein, a project that was started to handle waste management at the Kozhikode beach; Operation Sulaimani, a project aimed at addressing hunger in urban areas; and Yo Appuppa, a program launched to improve the quality of life of elderly men and women. Nair also launched “Dayalu Kozhikode”, a social initiative to help institutions such as children’s homes, old age homes, mental health centers and palliative care centres. This soon earned him the title of “Collector Bhai”.
In November 2017, Nair was appointed as Private Secretary to KJ Alphons, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism for 5 years. However, his appointment did not last even a year due to differences with the minister. He has also served as secretary to the then Home Minister Ramesh Chennaithala.
Apart from his career as a civil servant, Prashant has also acted in Ajay Devlok’s “Hu”. He has also directed a short film titled “Daivakanam”, which had its world premiere at the 71st Cannes Film Festival.

Controversy
Prashant Nair came into controversy when the district chief of Congress commented that Nair was spending time on social media but not receiving phone calls. Later Nair said during an interview, “It takes only five minutes to post a post on Facebook.” Just because my profile picture is smiling at you 24/7, doesn’t mean I’m sitting there all the time. Secondly, I am not chatting with my girlfriend. Citizens are communicating with me through this medium and getting their problems resolved. And finally, Facebook and Twitter are additional media for the citizen interface.
