NewJeans, a new K-pop group, has broken another record. ‘New Jeans’, the group’s first self-titled album, sold over 260,000 copies in a single day. This is the first sale date of any debut album released since September 2019. In addition to the fans’ passionate love for the first product, the trio also topped many domestic and foreign charts, attracting much attention. The first album, consisting of three title singles and a b-side, was physically released on August 8. On August 1, the digital edition of NewJeans’ first album was released.

On August 8, the mini-album was released. According to Hanteo’s statistics, the album sold 262,815 copies in its first day of release, which is a significant number for any artist, let alone a rookie trio. This is the best-selling debut girl group album by ‘New Jeans’ Hante. The previous record holder was LE SSERAFIM whose first album ‘FEARLESS’ sold 176,861 copies in its first day. The album is also the third best-selling debut album by a girl group in its first week of release on Hante, after rising to the top on its first day of release. NewJeans’ first album was released digitally on August 1st, with physical CDs to be released on August 8th.
Pre-orders for NewJeans’ album hit more than 444,000 copies in four days, according to the group’s management agency ADOR, the highest reported sales for the debut album by a K-pop girl group in history. However, physical records will only be sold in Weverse Shop Global. Hard copies of the album are available at Weverse Shop Japan and Universal Music Japan.
In addition to physical album sales, the band has set various digital streaming records with their albums. On the day of its release, their first album ‘New Jeans’ earned 2.06 million streams, a total of 226,000 listeners and 88,000 followers on Spotify. In all three categories, the group set the highest record of any K-pop girl group debuting this year. In particular, NewJeans’ “Attention” and “Hype Boy” topped Spotify Korea’s ‘Daily Songs’ chart for two days. Furthermore, “Cookie” ranked third on August 2 KST, while “Hurt” ranked fifth.

The group was initially suggested to debut in July 2022. The group was introduced with a surprise music video that followed the group’s journey. On July 1, 2022, ADOR released a series of trailers for the upcoming girl group. Min Hee-jin, SM Entertainment’s creative director and board member, founded the group. The group first appeared on the ADOR label. HYBE founded the ADOR sub-label last year, led by Min Hee-jin.
