Playlists are one of those shows that provide viewers with a layered viewing experience. One of the most compelling stories in the series is that of Petra Hansson (Gizem Erdogan), who largely ensured that Spotify won its contracts. Petra Hansson is the CEO and Chief Legal Officer of Spotify. She’s been working for the music streaming service for almost a decade, and her experience has helped them achieve a number of major milestones.
As shown in Playlists, nothing is known about Petra Hansson before her partnership with Spotify.
In the third episode of the Netflix miniseries called The Legal, Hansson is introduced as a rising lawyer at a large Scandinavian law firm. In fact, Petra Hansson is a promising employee at Mannheimer Swartling, the largest firm in the Swedish legal market. A year before Spotify launched, Hansson was in high demand and eventually joined them as their legal advisor and agent. She later represented the then-nascent streaming service in negotiations with major corporations and music labels, as accurately portrayed in The Playlist. Although Hansson went with Niklas Ivarsson in every legal matter, she came up with something that really helped Spotify grow.
While Spotify’s creator, Daniel Ek, wanted to make the service free to everyone, Hansson was able to see through the loopholes. In the end, she devised a strategy that ensures long-term sustainability. Petra Hansson, as beautifully portrayed in The Playlist, is credited with inventing the ad-free idea we now call Spotify Premium.
She also played a key role in Spotify’s worldwide success, negotiating with other legal experts to help the company establish a presence in the United States. In 2009, Hansson negotiated a deal with then-Warner Music Group CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr. to make Warner’s entire music collection available on Spotify in Europe.

What happened to Petra Hansson?
The playlist just followed it until Spotify came along. However, her relationship with the corporation has evolved over time, and her positions range from general counsel to director of business affairs. Hansson and Spotify finally broke up in 2017, ending their decades-long relationship. After leaving, she worked as a consultant and investor for many companies and non-profit organizations.
Hansson and Spotify’s former head of global licensing, Niklas Ivarsson, joined the advisory board of Tracklib, a model licensing company based in Stockholm, in February 2019. Tracklib CEO Pär Almqvist announced praise her contribution and efforts in helping the company overcome legal and commercial difficulties in 2020
Since then, Petra Hansson manages to live a private life and nothing is known about her activities after Tracklib. Her actual location is unclear, but she is believed to live in the greater Stockholm metropolitan area in Sweden. She is not active on any social networks.
