Kanwaljit Singh was born on 19 September in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He was brought up in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Virgo. - Kanwaljeet appeared for the NDA Airforce and Merchant Navy examinations at the age of 17. He was rejected due to hearing problem.
- Later, he became interested in acting and applied for an acting course at FTII. He gave audition in Delhi. In an interview he had said that he had no knowledge about acting. In the audition, he read the lines of the script in the style of Dev Anand and the judges were really disappointed.
- Kanwaljeet was very uncomfortable when he came in contact with the environment of Mumbai, but later he adopted the lifestyle there and became accustomed to it.
- The government had ordered that actors above 65 years of age will not be allowed to shoot after the lockdown ends in 2020. He raised his voice against this rule and in an interview he said,
This rule needs to be changed. Otherwise what will hundreds of actors like me do? We are passionate about working, we love our work, how can the government stop us? Will the authorities wake up when a senior actor, depressed over being out of work, commits suicide? Not every senior actor or unit member is in such a good condition that he can deal with this difficult time by just sitting at home and not working. “Most of them need to work, some for financial reasons, others for the love of work.”
- After more than 30 years of experience, in an interview he gave advice to budding actors and said,
If you feel that working here is as important as breathing, then this is the industry for you, be patient and stay focused; However the struggle is there; If you are good, you will be successful.”
