According to Vanity Fair, James Earl Jones will step down from voicing Darth Vader in Star Wars. Prior to the release of Obi-Wan Kenobi earlier this year, he was a cast member of the series. Jones previously said he plans to give up the role after The Rise of Skywalker’s release in 2019. The rights to the role have now been acquired by Lucasfilm and Ukrainian AI audio startup Respeecher. The inventor of the Respeecher, Alex Serdiu, revealed that Jones was replaced during the development of Obi-Wan Kenobi and stated:
“I can’t answer James Earl Jones with a yes or no.” Obi-Wan Kenobi is still hiding a lot of secrets. But when invading [of Ukraine] to begin with, we moved the data packets [for Obi-Wan Kenobi] to the Skywalker Sound.”
