Harishankar Reddy was born on Tuesday, 2 June 1998 (age 25 years; as of 2023) in Nagurivandla-Palli village, located in Cuddapah district of Andhra Pradesh. His full name is Hari Shankar Reddy Marareddy. His zodiac sign is Gemini. Reddy did his schooling from Swetha High School, Chinnamandem, Cuddapah. He has completed his graduation from a college in Kadapa.

Hari grew up playing tennis ball cricket in his village. In 2012, at the age of 14, he along with a friend went to Kadapa Municipal Ground, where cricket trials were going on for selection in the district level under-14 cricket team. Hari tried his luck in the trials and got selected for the summer camp held in Cuddapah in 2013. After his selection, he focused all his attention on building a professional career in cricket. He played for the Under-14 and Under-16 cricket teams of Cuddapah and then joined the ACA Academy Ground in Vizianagaram in 2016. He further improved his bowling after coming under the tutelage of coach CD Thomson at the ACA Academy Ground.

In 2018, Hari was included in Andhra Pradesh’s squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament. On 11 January 2018, he made his domestic debut for Andhra Pradesh in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Kerala. He finished his first home match with figures of 4/12 from two overs.

Hari played his first List-A cricket match for Andhra Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Vidarbha. This match was played on 20 February 2021 at SS Cricket Commune Stadium.

In the player auction for IPL 2021, he was bought by Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings for his base price of Rs. 2 million.
