While speaking with KROQ Boldness Record Earlier this week, Stefani opened up about why No Doubt’s songs affected her in a disturbing way. “I can’t listen to a lot of songs because they speak to me so clearly,” she explained.
“And it’s like, you know, you have regrets, you have mistakes that you’ve made. And most of the songs are about that.”
One No Doubt song in particular really gets to Gwen Stefani. “If I do ‘Ex-Girlfriend,’ even when I say it, I almost throw up in my mouth,” she admitted. “Just knowing exactly where she was at the time to write that song and what do I know now? It’s like, ‘Oh my God.’ “It just brings you back.”
Although she didn’t reveal what “mistakes” she was talking about, Gwen Stefani is known for writing songs about her personal relationships.
