Gerald Chatman is currently the defensive line coach for the Tulane Green Wave. According to many reports, he is slated to join the Florida Gators as the defensive line coach. He attended Brown Deer High School in Wisconsin, where he excelled in football and earned a letter.
Chatman earned a bachelor’s degree in educational leadership and human services from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2011. He continued his academic career earning a master’s degree in adult and community education from Ball State University in 2013. Chatman was a key member of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh football team from 2006 to 2010 where he played defensive end and tackle and earned four letters.

Chatman’s coaching career began at his alma mater. During the 2010 and 2011 seasons, he coached the defensive line at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. From 2012 to 2013, the 35-year-old served as a defensive graduate assistant at Ball State University, where he played an important role in the team’s true bowl game.
His coaching career progressed by working in several institutions:
- In 2014, Chatman served as Butler University’s defensive line coach and assistant recruiting coordinator.
- In 2015, he worked as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M University, specifically on the defensive line.

After that spell, he returned to Tulane as the defensive line coach after a brief stint as the interim defensive line coach at Louisiana State University.

Gerald Chatman and Lauren Hoffmann were married on July 11, 2015. They have three girls (Kinley, Amelia and Maya) and one boy. Lauren Hoffmann Chatman is a critical care registered nurse at IU Health Methodist Hospital.
New Florida Gators defensive line coach?
Florida wants to hire Tulane’s Gerald Chatman as defensive line coach under Billy Napier, according to sources. Gerald Chatman is slated to succeed Sean Spencer, who was fired on Nov. 27 after serving two seasons under Billy Napier. Although an official contract between Florida and Chatman has not been signed, all parties have agreed that Chatman will take over as coach.
