Gulnur started climbing at the age of 17 in the METU Mountaineering and Winter Sports Club. She first visited Nepal in 2004 for hiking and data collection for my PhD thesis. a study of risk marketing and risk consumption.
To date, only 12 women in the world have climbed the “Eight Peaks”. Her ambition is to be the first Turkish man and woman to climb all eight peaks. She completed McKinley (6,194 metres), Aconcagua (6,959 metres), Kilimanjaro (5,895 metres), Elbrus (5,642 metres) and the pyramid of Carstensz (4,884 metres). She attempted to climb Everest in April 2014, but failed when the trip to the summit was officially canceled due to a massive avalanche. On May 21, 2018, she made her second attempt and became the first Turkish woman to climb Everest from the Nepalese side.
