Outside of California and New York, Georgia has become a major player in film and television. The city of Atlanta in particular is known as the “Hollywood of the South” or “ATLwood”. But with Atlanta’s dense population density and lack of coastline, Georgia pushed the coastal city of Savannah into a location for producers and filming locations.

The town is known for many historical events and people, but in 1994 it was Forrest Gump Tom Hanks’ character talks about his life. The Lady and the Wanderer (2019)

Although the film also uses CGI dogs, the setting and scenes with real characters were shot in Savannah, Georgia. The film stars Tessa Thompson as the Lady and Justin Theroux as the Tramp.

Glory (1989)

This 1989 film is about the first all-black Confederate regiment during the American Civil War. It stars Matthew Broderick, Morgan Freeman, and Denzel Washington, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. While the film’s main battle took place in South Carolina, the film shot these scenes at the Girl Scout camp on Rose Doe Island near Savannah, Georgia.

Magic Mike XXL (2015)
