The distinguishing features of each character are easily recognizable, such as Sophie’s pink ribbon, gray hair and blue dress, Howl’s blonde hair and bold outfit, and eyes Calcifer’s light. Despite the deep shadows, it was magical, giving off a light, carefree feeling, creating an element of mystery.

Howl’s Castle is the work of a magical genius. It’s a mess and a mixture of the strange and the wonderful, which, when combined, creates a delicate balance. Of course, it couldn’t be together as a unit without the heart of the family and the heart of Hal, Calcifer. The artist created a vibrant landscape fan art with the castle in the center, a turnip head extending in the shadow of the massive structure.

In Hayao Miyazaki’s interpretation of the first novel in Diana Wayne Jones’ Howl’s Moving Castle series, there is a fight. War is only briefly mentioned in the book, but it is the central theme of the film.
Howl has his demons. If he continued to transform and use his magical powers to fight in war, he would be swallowed up by darkness. This piece shows Hal before and after his transformation.

Hal was known in this land as the Heart Eater, something that Calcifer and Markle spread around them so they wouldn’t be disturbed. Of course, Hal doesn’t actually eat hearts. This phrase was taken from what the aunts of the heartbroken Hals would say.
Howl fears he won’t be able to find love or courage, or save himself, and will be cursed forever, but then Sophie appears and saves him before darkness comes and his deal with The demon destroys him.

This interpretation of The Witch of the Wild is fascinating. The color bands represent enchanting witches and blend together magically. This kind of interpretation was far from the movie role, and closer to the book description. Although the witch is less of a threat in the movie, she is Hal’s biggest threat in the novel and casts a curse on him to keep him attracted to her.
