A climate change protest during the semifinal match against Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova at the US Open on Thursday night (September 7) temporarily delayed play.

According to ABC 7, several protesters were involved in a stunt that took place mid-game at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

The outlet noted that Coco had the advantage when protesters in the stands began creating a ruckus. One of them even stuck to the ground with glue.

Wearing T-shirts that said “End Fossil Fuels,” they managed to pause the game for about 15 minutes. Two people were reportedly arrested.

Coco and Karolina took advantage of the time as a break and had the opportunity to warm up again before returning to the court to resume play.

The first said there were negotiations with protesters, comparing it to a hostage situation.

Coco celebrated a big victory in August.
