Warning! Spoiler ahead for Chicago Fire season 11 episode 5.Despite being married for a while now, Chicago Fire season 11 explains why Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) cannot have kids yet. The One Chicago show’s main love line has gone through a lot in the last several years. Amid a string of personal and professional woes, the pair remains strong as ever, even committing to a life-long partnership with each other when they tied the knot in the Chicago Fire season 10 finale. Just because they are now married, it doesn’t mean that they can move forward and have children next.
Chicago Fire episode “Haunted House” explains why the Severides shouldn’t have kids — at least not yet. After Firehouse 51 responded to a domestic dispute which involved a mom and a daughter violently fighting, Kidd personally looked after the minor who was struggling with her dad’s death. While his wife was totally involved, however, Severide wasn’t. Although he wasn’t exactly apathetic, showing Kidd support and encouraging the teenager to reconcile with her mom, it’s a sign that the couple just isn’t on the same page yet when it comes to other responsibilities beyond their commitment to each other and their work. Having kids now not only could change the trajectory of their careers but could also result in marital issues.
Will Severide & Kidd Have Kids?
As seen in the Chicago Fire season 11 premiere, Severide and Kidd’s married life started on a rough patch after they were ambushed during their honeymoon. Since then, however, the couple has been slowly settling back into their old routine both at home and at Firehouse 51. After tying the knot, having kids is arguably the next organic step in their arc, but there is still no concrete indication that it’s something in the cards for them in Chicago Fire season 11. The pair doesn’t even actively talk about it. This doesn’t mean that it will never happen, however, especially if NBC wants to throw the couple a curveball.
What’s Next For Severide & Kidd?
For now, Severide and Kidd are going strong while Chicago Fire‘s all other prominent love lines have ended in the last few episodes. Sylvie Brett (Kara Kilmer) broke up with her boyfriend, setting up Matt Casey’s (Jesse Spencer) return, while Chief Evan Hawkins’ (Jimmy Nicholas) death effectively ended his and Violet Mikami’s (Hanako Greensmith) affair. Given these, it’s safe to say that NBC will be keeping Severide and Kidd happily together to offer a balanced narrative to its viewers. So while there may be problems on the horizon for them, the chances of them splitting up are very slim to none.
Just because a child or a major crisis isn’t on the cards yet for Severide and Kidd, it doesn’t mean that their story will be boring moving forward. As Chicago Fire‘s main love line, NBC will expectedly be keen on continuously putting them and their relationship at the center of the series. In any case, considering the two love stories that recently ended in heartbreaks, Firehouse 51 needs a couple to prove that love is alive.
Chicago Fire season 11 airs Wednesdays on NBC.
