Warning: Contains spoilers for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean.JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean revolves around Enrico Pucci trying to attain Heaven in DIO’s stead, and as it turns out, DIO’s own Heaven plan has already been revealed. Even though DIO died in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures: Stardust Crusaders, Stone Ocean does a lot to retroactively flesh out his character and make him out to be far more philosophical and ambitious than he was originally depicted to be. The Heaven plan DIO made is the perfect example of this, and while DIO never got a chance to act on it before his death, the franchise has already shown what would have happened if he had the chance to do it.
Enrico Pucci’s goal in Netflix’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean is to enact DIO’s secret plan for attaining Heaven. In part 2 of the anime, Pucci, through a series of steps that involved sacrificing 36 sinners and reciting 14 specific phrases, was able to fuse himself with DIO’s bone, which had been transformed into a being called the Green Child, and transform himself and his Stand on a physical and spiritual level. With that done, the only thing left for Pucci is to make his way to Cape Canaveral on a new moon and fully attain Heaven, all of which will be covered in part 3 of the anime.
DIO was never shown enacting his Heaven plan before his death, but JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure would eventually show what would have happened if he got the chance. In the video game JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven, an alternate version of DIO managed to attain Heaven after defeating JoJo‘s Jotaro Kujo and his friends. Doing so turned him into Heaven Ascension DIO, and through his new Stand, The World Over Heaven, he had the power to rewrite reality at his whim, which he would use to take over his world and make everyone revere him as a god. All of that makes it clear that DIO’s version of Heaven would have pushed his villainy and megalomania to its logical conclusion and given him all the power he needed to finally rule the world.
How Pucci’s Heaven Plan Is Different From DIO’s In JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
While DIO’s version of Heaven furthered his desire for absolute power, Enrico Pucci’s idea of Heaven is very different. When Pucci (voiced by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba‘s Tomokazu Seki), carried out DIO’s Heaven plan, it eventually transformed his Whitesnake into Made In Heaven, a Stand with the power to accelerate time to the point that the universe would end and then restart in a big crunch. Thanks to this, everyone who was caught in the acceleration of time would know everything they would ever do in life thanks to already having lived through it, which Pucci believed would allow them to accept anything bad without suffering. This stems from how Pucci unwittingly pushed his younger sister into killing herself when he was younger, an event he believes he could have accepted if he had known what would have happened ahead of time.
While JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean only focused on Pucci acting out the Heaven plan, DIO’s (voiced by Attack on Titan‘s Takehito Koyasu) version had already been revealed through Eyes of Heaven’s Heaven Ascension DIO. Unlike Pucci, who wanted to attain Heaven to make people know and accept their fates, DIO wanted to attain Heaven to fully realize his desire to take over the world. Their respective plans couldn’t be more different, but if nothing else, the fact that they were able to become friends while having such different goals makes their friendship that much more endearing.
