WARNING: This article includes spoilers from The Flash season 9 premiere. The new Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost mystery begins in The Flash season 9, episode 2 trailer. The final season of the Arrowverse’s longest-running series has officially begun as Barry Allen’s last year on The CW is now in motion. With only 13 episodes to tell The Flash’s last story, the clock is ticking, and The CW drama is not holding back for the final season. The Flash season 9 premiere, “Wednesday Ever After,” saw the Scarlet Speedster deal with a time-loop situation that ultimately got solved by the end of the episode. However, with one obstacle fixed, it didn’t take long for another one to rise by the end of the premiere.
In the final minutes of The Flash season 9 premiere, Danielle Panabaker made her first appearance in the final season. This was following her ambiguous ending in The Flash season 8 finale, where Caitlin’s fate was left up in the air.
Following the airing of the premiere, The CW (via TV Promos) ran a trailer for The Flash season 9, episode 2, which airs next week. Titled “Hear No Evil,” the trailer sees Team Flash discovering more about Panabaker’s new character, who is neither Frost nor Caitlin. “Hear No Evil” was directed by The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace, while it was written by Jonathan Butler and Kristen Kim. The CW has also released a number of promotional images for The Flash season 9, episode 2, which can be seen below:
NEW KID IN TOWN – Barry (Grant Gustin) feels guilty for what happened to Caitlin and Mark (Jon Cor) comes up with a plan which makes everyone skeptical. Meanwhile, Red Death looms in Central City and commands that failure is not an option. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) asks Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) to make a choice which leads Cecile to think about the greater good. Allegra (Kayla Compton) and Chester (Brandon McKnight) take a step in a new direction. Lastly, old friends pay an unexpected visit to S.T.A.R. Labs. Eric Wallace directed the episode written by Jonathan Butler & Kristen Kim (#902). Original airdate 2/15/2023.
Everything We Know About Caitlin Snow’s New Persona In The Flash Season 9
With this being another persona rather than a resurrected Frost, there are very few details known about The Flash’s new character. The popular theory is that the Arrowverse is bringing in one of the other versions of Killer Frosts but through Caitlin in The Flash season 9. In the comics, Caitlin is the third DC character to carry the Killer Frost comics. Two of the potential candidates that the new personality may or may not be is either Crystal Frost or Louise Lincoln.
The only thing that goes against one of those theories is how Louise is already established in the Arrowverse. Back in The Flash season 5, Louise was name-dropped and established to be a scientist that worked with Caitlin’s father, Thomas. However, this was in a pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths continuity, meaning The Flash may have retconned the original Louise after season 5. This could, in turn, allow The Flash season 9 to have this persona be Louise if she isn’t Crystal.
Based on The Flash season 9 premiere, whoever Panabaker’s new character is, the Arrowverse is certainly gearing up a massive mystery for this season. As strange as this plot point may turn out, at least The Flash isn’t going back on Frost’s major death. Had that been the direction for this arc, it would have taken away one of The Flash season 8’s most emotional moments that had big fallout for the team. Hopefully, it won’t take long for The Flash season 9 to fully establish who this is and what this means for Caitlin’s Arrowverse future.
