Child’s Play Franchise: Chucky’s Most Memorable One-Liners

The beginning of the notably successful Child’s Play franchise came in 1988. The original series consisted of seven films, all helmed by Don Mancini. Child’s Play is one of the most famous horror franchises ever, and everyone – even those who aren’t necessarily fans of macabre – undoubtedly knows the name Chucky. The idea of an evil possessed doll running around and killing people wasn’t even a very original plot back when the first Child’s Play movie hit theatres, but Don Mancini managed to make this whole concept successful. The demented serial killer turned Good Guys doll gained such a cult following, that the series is widely regarded as immortal, and Chucky is inarguably a horror icon.

It seems that fans will not be seeing the end of the favorite supernatural doll anytime soon, as Lars Klevberg’s recent remake has just hit theatres, and original creator Don Mancini will be running an upcoming Child’s Play TV series. Chucky is definitely an iconic killer doll who had an unforgettably witty persona, which was showcased by memorable one-liners that occurred throughout the original series.

Updated on December 30th, 2020 by Scoot Allan: While the horror genre is filled with silent, stalking masked killers like Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, there are a few movie slashers that have become equally known for inspired and bloody kills as well as unforgettable one-liners. One of the best of the bunch is the killer doll known as Chucky, who has maintained his memorable quotes even though the character received a new origin and direction with the 2019 reboot of the Child’s Play franchise, giving fans even more amazing one-liners to enjoy from Chucky.

Updated on December 20th, 2021 by Ben HathawayWith the release of the Syfy series, Chucky, there’s now further opportunity to hear the killer doll’s penchant for sick, clever one-liners. This piece now contains 4 more of the best Chucky quotes.

“Now The Joke’s On You.”

A focus of the Chucky series is the effect of bullying on an individual’s psyche. Kids (of all ages) can be merciless just to make themselves feel better.

This leads to Chucky actually being (his version of) nice for once. While defending a bullied child, he says: “It’s contagious, isn’t it? Laughing at people. Well, guess what, d***heads, now the joke’s on you.” From there, Chucky’s brief tenure into legitimately being a Good Guy is put on the back burner for carnage. Regardless, the series is probably the most likable Chucky has ever been.

“I Got My Sights Set On Bigger Game.”

Bree Wheeler falls to her death on Chucky

Chucky spends the majority of the series making loner high-schooler Jake Wheeler look guilty. Wheeler and Chucky end up striking a bargain of sorts, with Chucky promising to choose his targets in collaboration with Wheeler.

When Wheeler makes the suggestion to go after a bully, Chucky replies with “I got my sights set on bigger game.” This is in reference to Wheeler’s aunt, Bree. Unfortunately, Chucky goes through with it, removing one of the best and bravest characters from Chucky.

“I’ll Make You A Deal. Kill Jake And I’ll Let You Live.”

Brad Dourif as Burned Chucky in Chucky Episode 4

Chucky has always been manipulative. However, where once he would toy with the minds of children in order to possess their physicality, now he’s trying to get others to kill.

First, he tries to turn Jake Wheeler to the homicidal dark side. While Wheeler doesn’t reject the offer outright, he does reject it. So Chucky turns his sights to Jake’s cousin, Junior Wheeler. Chucky says “I’ll make you a deal. Kill Jake and I’ll let you live.” Junior embraces evil but he thankfully fails his objective.

Personally, I Like Hiding Behind An Innocent Face.”

Teo Briones as Junior Killing Chucky in Season 1, Episode 8

This Chucky quote is his attempt at an explanation in regards to his tactics. He’s telling Jake Wheeler, but might as well be telling the audience. However, they already know, as Chucky has been trying to possess children for most of an entire film series.

Still, there’s something about him boiling down something so evil to such a simple sentence: “Personally, I like hiding behind an innocent face.” The quote is a character joyfully speaking about possessing children for the purpose of murder. Such duplicity may make Chucky one of the series’ smartest characters, but he’s far from the nicest.

“I’ve Got A New Game, Sport. It’s Called Hide The Soul.”

Chucky in Child's Play 2

After franchise star Andy Barclay found a new home with an adopted family in Child’s Play 2, he soon found himself haunted by another Good Guy doll that was already in his new home which was secretly replaced by Chucky.

Chucky pretends to be a regular doll briefly, though he reveals himself to Andy one night by tying him up and preparing him for a ritual with a terrifying one-liner that reveals a new game the two BFF’s can play. “It’s called Hide the Soul. And guess what? You’re it.” It’s one of the more famous Chucky quotes.

“A True Classic Never Goes Out Of Style.”

Bride of Chucky with wife

When Chucky was joined by his better half Tiffany (played by Jennifer Tilly) in her own killer doll form, the two embarked on a frenzied road trip/killing spree with eloping lovers Jade and Jessie in 1998’s Bride of Chucky.

When Jade’s police officer father begins to investigate their ride, Tiffany urges Chucky to kill him with a nail gun to try something new. While it gruesomely injures him, he doesn’t die, leading Chucky to pick up his iconic weapon of choice to finish the job.

“Oops, I Did It Again!”

2004’s Seed of Chucky was a direct sequel to Bride of Chucky that followed the child of Chucky and Tiffany as he brought his parents back to their doll forms in order to learn more about himself and his origins.

While the family didn’t bond right away, Chucky and Glen spent some time together driving around Hollywood where they ended up running a car off the road that had a license plate that referenced pop singer Britney Spears. Chucky’s hilarious one-liner references Spears’ hit song while also commenting on his neverending drive to cause mayhem.

“I Don’t Know Whether To Kill Him Or Just Take Notes!”

Cult of Chucky Dr. Foley

The franchise went in a dramatic new direction with 2017’s Cult of Chucky, which took place in a mental institution after the events of Curse of Chucky introduced Nica Pierce, a new victim of Chucky’s legacy that survived her ordeal only to meet an even worse monster.

That monster was Michael Therriault’s Dr. Foley, the chief psychiatrist who used his hypnotic suggestions to sexually abuse Nica. When Chucky first discovered his actions, he remarked on his twisted perversions before possessing Nica and violently killing Dr. Foley.

“If They Don’t Let Us Play, They All Go Away.”

Chucky in reboot film Child's Play

2019’s reboot of Child’s Play introduced a new origin for Chucky as a robotic doll named Buddi that was sabotaged by a disgruntled employee, resulting in a dangerous artificial intelligence named Chucky without any safety protocols.

The new Chucky attempts to follow its programming and bond with Andy, though Chucky’s problems and jealousy of Andy’s other friends leads to a few troubling incidents. When Chucky is taken away from Andy, the deadly doll follows his own chilling logic and launches a killing spree so he can keep playing with his best buddy Andy.

“Sometimes I Scare Myself.”

Chucky Kills in Cult of Chucky

Throughout the several Child’s Play installments, the character of Chucky became more fleshed out. In 2017, when Cult of Chucky was released, the killer doll had become unapologetically sardonic, crude, and uncensored, to an almost ridiculous extent. That’s why the fact that Don Mancini has taken to using self-aware humor in the Child’s Play series is so beneficial.

Chucky doesn’t take himself too seriously, and that’s what we love about him. In a scene where he makes a particularly gruesome kill, Chucky says, “sometimes I scare myself”, which is the perfect line.

“We’re Friends Till The End, Remember?”

Chucky Child's Play

The Good Guys dolls have a series of automated phrases, and such have become some of Chucky’s most famous lines. “Hi, I’m Chucky, your friend till the end”, was one of the first things Chucky was heard saying to Andy in the original Child’s Play movie. This catchphrase was a recurring one throughout the entire series of films, so of course, it became one of the most well-known Child’s Play quotes.

In one of the final scenes of the first movie, Chucky taunts Andy, saying, “we’re friends till the end, remember?”, to which Andy replies, “this is the end, friend”. Of course, that definitely was not the end, but it was one of the most memorable scenes in the entire franchise.

“You Have A Date With Death.”

Andy and Chucky

John Bishop was a character who appeared in the first Child’s Play movie. He was nicknamed “Dr. Death”, due to the fact that he dabbled in the art of voodoo. He was shown to be immensely interested in figuring out what Chucky was all about, and how he became a killer doll.

Unfortunately, John does not live to see any other installments of the film series. He meets his demise in the first movie when he is killed by Chucky in one of the most creative death sequences the franchise has to offer. Before he executes John, voodoo style, Chucky quips, “you have a date with death”.

“Chucky Says Move Your Ass!”

Chucky

The second Child’s Play movie hit theatres in 1990, in which Chucky makes his dramatic return and goes on a mission to find his original owner, Andy. When Chucky succeeds in this, he corners Andy, saying, “Okay, sport. We’re gonna have a little game of Chucky Says. Now Chucky says move your ass!”

This is another example of the fact that this psychotic doll has no shortage of sarcastic quips and remarks. He ceaselessly maintains his trademark humor, even in the darkest of times.

“What’s So Great About Being A Human?”

Chucky Child's Play

Chucky has a point with this line. In Seed of Chucky (2004), the narcissistic doll makes that sardonic remark, “If this is what it takes to be human, then I’d rather take my chances as a supernaturally-possessed doll! It’s much less complicated! Think about it! What’s so great about being human? You get sick! You get old! As a doll, I’m infamous!”

This is one of the best quotes that originated from the Child’s Play franchise, and that is surprising since it took place in one of the worst installments.

“You Just Can’t Keep A Good Guy Down.”

Chucky Child's Play

In the third Child’s Play movie, which premiered in theatres in 1991, Chucky once again succeeded in hunting down a now almost grown-up Andy. Chucky makes a dramatic scene of approaching Andy, who is shocked to see that Chucky is back again.

“You just can’t keep a good guy down”, Chucky says proudly. This quote remains true throughout the entire movie series and is both a hilarious nod to Chucky’s supernatural immortality and his new body’s make.

“Presto! You’re Dead!”

Chucky screaming in rage in Child's Play.

This line is so simple, yet so iconic. Virtually every hardcore Chucky fan remembers this scene, in which Chucky’s disturbing sense of humor is put in the spotlight. The scene presents Chucky as he pretends to be an inanimate object, only to lure a man into getting close enough to make it possible for Chucky to slash his throat.

This particular moment also includes Chucky’s signature, completely unsettling, evil laugh, after he victoriously shouts, “presto! you’re dead!”.

“I Always Come Back!”

Chucky Child's Play

In 1998, the fourth installment of the Child’s Play series was created. Bride of Chucky is known as one of the weaker movies of the franchise, especially since it includes not one, but two crazed killer dolls. Chucky’s sense of humor is fun in small doses, but after a while, it becomes a little dull and overdone. Thus the failure of Bride of Chucky, in which Jennifer Tilly stars as Tiffany. Once Chucky’s wife is introduced to the series, the entire concept becomes quite ridiculous, and the humor gets rather annoying.

But this film did coin one of Chucky’s most simple, yet very memorable phrases: “Go ahead and shoot! I’ll be back. I always come back!”

“Hi, I’m Chucky. Wanna Play?”

Childs Play 3

Chucky had countless memorable catchphrases and sayings throughout the entirety of the Child’s Play franchise. His way with words was one of the most notable reasons that he became such a famous horror icon. Chucky’s trash-talking and sarcastic humor served to set him apart from other horror movie dolls and worked to give him a unique reputation.

One of the most memorable phrases that come to mind when one reminisces on the Chucky films, is the doll’s infamous, “Hi, I’m Chucky. Wanna play?” This was an automated Good Guy doll phrase, but since it’s associated with Chucky, it’s actually pretty creepy.

“I’m Not Going To Give That Up.”

Chuckie Tiffany Childs Play

By the time Seed of Chucky was created in 2004, everyone knew about the killer doll and his infamous reputation. The Child’s Play franchise is very well-known, despite many of the movies meeting mixed reviews and being considered controversial.

Seed of Chucky was greeted with especially substandard responses, which later led to the next two installments – Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky – being sent straight to DVD. The decision to make Chucky some weird, sadistic version of a “family man”, was a questionable one on Don Mancini’s part. But when thinking of this movie, we do have at least one memorable and amusing quote to remember –“I’m one of the most notorious slashers in history and I’m not going to give that up!”
