BS Yediyurappa was born on Saturday, 27 February 1943 (age 76 years; as in 2019) in Bukanakere village in Mandya district of Karnataka. His zodiac sign is Pisces. He completed his primary education from a local school in Bukanakere and his intermediate education from PES College in Mandya, Karnataka. He studied Bachelor of Arts from Bangalore University.

After completing his college education, he started working as a First Division Clerk in the Social Welfare Department of the Government of Karnataka in 1965. He soon left his job and shifted to Shikaripura, where he worked as a clerk in a rice mill that belonged to Virbhadra Shastri. , Two years later he married Shastri’s daughter. BS Yediyurappa has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since his college days. In 1970, he was appointed as the secretary of the Shikaripura unit of the RSS. He was jailed for 45 days in Bellary and Shimoga during the Emergency. In 1977, he was appointed as the president of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the political organization of the RSS. After the name of Jan Sangh was changed to BJP in 1980, he was appointed the President of Shikaripura unit of BJP. In 1983, he was elected to the lower house of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly for the first time. In 1985 he was appointed president of the Shimoga unit. In 1988, he was appointed President of Karnataka BJP.

In 1999, he lost the Karnataka Assembly elections, but, he was nominated by the BJP to the Upper House of the Karnataka Assembly. In 2006, the BJP formed an alliance with the Janata Dal (Secular) and formed the government in Karnataka. It was decided that HD Kumaraswamy will be the Chief Minister for 20 months and then Yediyurappa will be the CM for the next 20 months. When Kumaraswamy completed 20 months, he refused to leave the post of CM. On 5 October 2007, Yediyurappa resigned and the BJP withdrew support to the Kumaraswamy government. On 7 November 2007, BJP and JDS agreed for Yediyurappa to become the CM and he took oath as CM on 12 November 2007. However, JDS had differences with BJP over ministries. As a result of which Yediyurappa had to resign from the post of CM on 19 November 2007.

Re-elections were held in Karnataka in 2008. Yediyurappa contested and won from Shikaripura constituency. Yediyurappa also led the BJP to its first victory in the south Indian state. Yediyurappa won as MLA from Shikaripura constituency, but his party was not performing well in Karnataka. On November 2013, he announced that he would rejoin the BJP, and on 2 January 2014, he merged his party with the BJP. In 2016, Yediyurappa was appointed President of Karnataka BJP. BJP has announced that Yediyurappa will be the Chief Ministerial candidate for the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections. BJP won 104 seats (8 short of majority). On 17 May 2018, he took oath as the Chief Minister and was given 15 days to prove his majority in the House. However, the Supreme Court of India intervened and ordered a trust vote within two days. Yediyurappa failed to prove his majority, and hence, had to resign on 19 May 2018. This made him the shortest-serving CM in the history of India; Because he was CM only for 2 days.
