Ajay Singh is an Indian weightlifter who has won several medals in national and international weightlifting tournaments. He holds several national weightlifting records and is considered one of the best Indian weightlifters.

Ajay Singh Shekhawat was born on Thursday, 17 April 1997 (age 25 years; as of 2022) in Khadot village, Chirawa tehsil of Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan, India. His zodiac sign is Aries. He studied from MG Public School, Jhunjhunu till 5th class. He actively played sports because he did not find his studies interesting. He played Kabaddi, athletics and participated in 20 km walk events and occasionally in 600 m races; However, in 2010, when he was inducted into the Army Sports Institute, his trainers recommended him to take up weightlifting after reviewing his body structure and muscular activities.

He trained at Army Sports Institute, Pune for 2-3 years under Subedar Rajendra and at Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports, Patiala under senior coach Vijay Sharma and assistant coach Pramod Sharma. He participated in various local weightlifting competitions in Jhunjhunu. He competed in the under 69 kg category at the 8th National Youth Weightlifting Tournament in 2012 and finished 5th. In 20165, he participated in the 67th Men’s Senior National Weightlifting Championships held in Jaipur, Rajasthan and came fourth. He competed at the Commonwealth Junior Championships in 2015, 2016 and 2017, and finished 5th at the 18th Asian Games in 2018. At the 2018 IWF World Championships, he came in 26th place and at the 2019 IWF World Championships, he came in 18th place. In 2020, he competed at the 6th International Solidarity Championships and finished fourth. He won gold medals at the 2019 and 2021 Commonwealth Senior Championships. In 2021, he finished 13th at the 2021 IWF World Championships and came fourth at the 22nd Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, UK.

Facts/General Knowledge
- In December 2019, he was not allowed to board a flight due to a torn passport, following which he returned home from the airport and could not compete in the Olympic Qualifiers weightlifting tournament held in Doha and the subsequent 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
- During the off season, he trains for 1 hour in the morning, trains during the day from 10 am to 1 pm and does technical training from 4 pm to 7 pm.
- He likes to watch South Indian action movies in his free time and Ravi Teja is his favorite South Indian actor.
- In 2020, he suffered injuries to the lateral muscle of the shoulder and biceps, which he feared could end his career; However, he was treated by Dr. Ajit Mahapari in Pune and after two to three months of rehabilitation, his performance returned within 6 months after training under coach Iqbal Singh.
- In 2015, he was commissioned as a Havildar in the 21 Rajputana Rifles Battalion by the Indian Army. He also received employment offers from Rajasthan Police, Indian Railways and Bank of India; However, his desire was to serve in the army and he chose the Indian Army. At the age of 22, he was promoted as Naib Subedar.

- Because of his immense strength his friends and trainers call him Horsepower.
- He could not attend his elder sister Bharti Kanwar’s event on 6 December 2021 as he had to participate in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He promised to bring the gold medal to his sister and later won the medal in the tournament.
- He is the national record holder for snatch, clean and jerk and total weight lifted in 81 kg category.
