Babak Khorramdin was an Iranian film producer who was murdered by his parents on 16 May 2021 and according to media sources, it was a case of honor killing.

Babak Khorramdin was born in Iran in 1974 (aged 47 at the time of death). He earned a master’s degree in film from the College of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, Iran. In 2000, he completed a one-year film production course at the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, Tehran.

livelihood

In 1999, he worked for the Cinematic Cultural Center “SHAFAGH”. He taught acting and filmmaking to students, and some of the subjects he taught were:

  • Krzysztof Kieslowski’s analysis of the group of cultural and artistic “conscience” in the Iranian youth cinema society
  • Film director’s course taught at the University of Scientific Applied Cultural and Art Cinema since 2014

He wrote the scripts for various short films like ‘Gate 13,’ ‘Beautiful Mouth and Green Eyes,’ and ‘Contrast.’

Babak worked as a writer and director on various Iranian short films such as ‘The Cut’ (2003), ‘The Sun’ (2010), ‘Beam of Light’ (2010), and ‘To Be’ (2018) . He had membership as a director in Khaneh Cinema of Iran.

Death

On 16 May 2021, his parents stabbed him to death after rendering him unconscious. Reportedly, Babak had a fight with his parents because he was not getting married which angered his parents and after a heated argument, his parents brutally killed him. His parents later confessed to their crime in the local court. His father said,

Due to the dispute between us, today (Sunday) morning I made him unconscious by giving him anesthetic and then killed him with a knife. Then I cut his body into pieces and threw it in the nearest dustbin on the road with my wife.

On his demise, his colleagues, friends and former students shared heartfelt posts on their Instagram accounts. One of his friends posted,

Babak was a filmmaker and a few years ago I often met him in London’s cultural and artistic circles. I heard that he missed his family and returned to Iran, and now I saw this terrible news, and I can’t believe it. What a terrible time.”
