On 11 December 2020 (Friday), she was found dead at her residence in Jodhpur Park, a posh area of Kolkata. According to forensic experts, his nose was bleeding and he had vomited before breathing his last. She was found lying on her bedroom floor. Local police while talking to journalists said,
Banerjee lived alone in her house with a dog. His sister lives in Singapore. Many empty liquor bottles were found in the room. Like every day her maid came to work and when she did not get any response she informed her neighbors and the police was informed. The house was locked from inside. The investigation is ongoing.”
