Two members of country music royalty took the stage for the first time. Emmy Russell, granddaughter of Loretta Lynn, and Luka Nelson, son of Willie Nelson, performed together. The performance was part of a commemorative concert organized by the CMT.
Before her performance, Emmy Russell noted that it was the first time she performed without her grandmother to take her on stage. Loretta Lynn passed away in October 2022.
“She would always stand in the corner and call me up to the stage,” he said. “It is the first time that she is not here to look at me with her proud eyes. It’s just special. Thanks for listening.”
Lynn’s granddaughter wants to create her own legacy
Russell is a fan favorite on this season of American Idol. He wowed the judges with his audition this season.
Loretta Lynn is a country music legend. Therefore, it is not likely that Russell will be able to distance himself from his late grandmother’s legacy. But the singer does insist that she is trying to create her own.
“I used to run away from my family heritage and wanted to make my own path,” Russell said. “I feel a deep conviction to thank her, accept her and celebrate her, because she believed in me from the beginning before anyone else. I’m not ashamed anymore. She was never ashamed of me… I am a granddaughter and I am Emmy… she is all part of me!
Country Legend’s daughter comes to the defense of Beyoncé
Beyoncé released the second act of her Renaissance series on March 29. The second act of her critically acclaimed album pays homage to her roots in the country genre. However, many have shown disdain for her trying out country music. But legendary country singer June Carter Cash’s daughter, Carlen, recently defended the choice of Grammy winners.
“I’m here to let Beyoncé and all those naysayers know that I admire her and I love her and everything she does,” he said.
“I am delighted to know that Carter’s courage is in her just as it has been for almost 100 years in which we, the Carters, chose to follow our hearts, hearts that are full of love not only for country music but for everything kind of music. We warmly welcome you to the Carter Girl Club! It’s only a matter of time before those detractors become defenders of the Bey.”
