Agnimitra Paul is an Indian politician and fashion designer. In 2019, she became the President of BJP Mahila Morcha and in 2021, she was elected MLA from Asansol South Assembly. Before entering politics, she worked as a fashion designer in Kolkata, India and designed costumes for various films.

Agnimitra Paul was born as Agnimitra Ray on Saturday, 25 November 1972 (Age 49 years; till 2021) in Asansol, Paschim Bardhaman, West Bengal. She passed her secondary examination from the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Board in 1989 at Loreto Convent School, Asansol.
In 1991, she passed the Higher Secondary Examination from the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education Board at Asansol Girls College. Subsequently, she went to Banwarilal Bhalotia College to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Science (Botany) and passed out in 1994. She also prepared for JEE but remained on the waiting list for two years. His parents donated huge amounts to ensure his admission to a medical college in Bengaluru. She moved to Bengaluru to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor. However, she gave up this dream because her boyfriend Partho did not like it and returned home after a week. After marriage, she went to Jadavpur University to pursue a master’s degree in Business Administration. During that time, she also enrolled in a fashion designing course at BILAMS and passed out in 1997.

She is the daughter of Dr. Ashok Ray and Aparna Ray. His father is a pediatrician in Asansol, West Bardhaman, West Bengal and his mother is the former managing director at Avishkar Diagnostic Centre. He also has a sister named Ari Ray.

Agnimitra is married to an entrepreneur, Partho Paul, who is the executive director of a pharmaceutical company called Palsan Drugs and Chemical Industries. She met him for the first time in 1992 when he went to meet her father for official work.
In an interview, they talked about how they got along and said,
I met Partho for the first time in 1992 when he came to meet my father on some official work. Our first impressions? My dad liked him immediately, my mom was a little worried, and I thought he was a very genuine guy. I had just completed 12th, had dreams of clearing JEE and becoming a doctor. But they say that when love comes calling, everything else pales in comparison.
When they started dating they exchanged romantic cards and soon they got married. They have two sons named Vignesh Paul and Siddhesh Paul.

Agnimitra’s husband supported her dream of becoming a fashion designer and she started working as a fashion designer in various fashion houses. In 1996, she worked closely with established designers like Ritu Beri and continued doing such assistant jobs for five years with a monthly salary of around Rs. 2,500. This earning served as the initial funding for her own store and later, she started her own fashion retail label named Inga. She designed the costumes for the Bollywood film, Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe in 2001.
From 2006 to 2008, he designed costumes for some of the biggest cinema projects in Tollywood. These projects included films like Hungama directed by Swapan Saha and Bidhatar Lekha directed by Raja Mukherjee. According to Agnimitra, she is the first working woman in her family with the support of her husband. He talked about this in an interview and said,
Who would have thought that a few hours every morning at BILAMS would make me pursue fashion design with such commitment! And this time, Partho did not stand in my way. I was the first woman in the family to start working and I am really grateful for the support and encouragement from my husband and in-laws.
In May 2017, he designed a themed jersey for the Kolkata XI team, which was showcased at a press meet.
Politician
In March 2019, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and became the President of BJP Mahila Morcha, West Bengal. In an interview, she talked about Narendra Modi, whom she considers her inspiration in politics and said,
It was because of Narendra Modi that I joined the party. I admire her; I am a big fan of his and would be happy to work under his leadership. I have joined BJP for him, not for anyone else and nothing more than that. I like his speeches, policies and the work he has done for the country. India is in a very strong position because of his international policies.
As president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, she organized a training workshop for women called Uma, which focused on teaching self-defense to women, in 23 districts of West Bengal in September 2020. According to IPC Section 506, he faces 4 charges related to punishment for criminal intimidation. According to section 324 of the IPC, he faces a charge of causing hurt by a dangerous weapon. Subsequently, fifteen more charges have been imposed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Controversy
In September 2019, she lodged a police complaint that she was molested and physically abused by a mob at Jadavpur University in Kolkata, West Bengal. He said that his clothes were torn and his honor was attacked by the mob in the university. While filing the complaint he said,
When we were about to enter the venue, a section of the unruly crowd blocked our way. They started raising slogans. Gradually, the mob claiming to be university students turned violent and started physical abuse, assault, abusive language and moral destruction.’
