Zorawar Singh Sandhu started shooting at the age of eleven. He has participated in many national and international shooting tournaments. In an interview, Sandhu said that he was introduced to shooting at a very young age, and he shifted from skeet shooting to trap events at the behest of his family. He said,
I was introduced to shooting when I was five years old. I started skeet shooting when I was 11 years old. Later, when my father and grandfather asked me to change the event for better prospects, I started taking up trap shooting.”
In 2014, Sandhu earned a gold medal in the men’s trap event at the National Games held in Patiala. After a long gap, in 2022, he participated in the men’s trap final at the National Games held in Gujarat, where he earned a silver medal for shooting. In January 2023, Sandhu topped the National Shotgun Selection Trials at New Moti Bagh Gun Club, Patiala. In October 2023, Zorawar Singh Sandhu represented India at the 19th Asian Games (2022) held in Hangzhou, China. He won the gold medal for shooting in the men’s trap event along with his teammates Keenan Chenai and Prithviraj Toindaman.

At the 2022 Asian Games, India earned the gold medal by scoring an Asian Games record 361 points, while Kuwait won the silver medal with 359 points, and China won the bronze medal with 354 points. The cumulative scores of the shooters in the qualifying rounds of each country were considered to award medals in the trap team event in the shotgun range, where Zorawar Singh was second in qualifying for the round with a score of 120/125. Later, Zorawar finished fifth in the individual finals with a score of 23/30.
