Following a six-month surveillance operation, Mexican authorities captured Ovidio Guzmán-López, one of the four sons of drug lord El Chapo who took over the operations of the Sinaloa Cartel after his imprisonment in the United States. Ovidio’s arrest sparked violence in Culiacán as cartel members looted property and burned dozens of vehicles.
Ovidio is a wanted man in the United States, but it could be a while before the drug lord is charged in a US court. By CNN, the foreign minister of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, said that the formalities of the law would delay the possible extradition of Ovidio. Ebrard also said that Ovidio faces criminal charges in Mexico.
Ovidio is reportedly married to Adriana Meza, the ‘Queen of the Sinaloa Cartel’
Media reports claim that Ovidio Guzmán is married to Adriana Meza Torres, the daughter of late Sinaloa Cartel leader Raúl Meza. It is not clear why Adriana is referred to as the ‘Queen of the Sinaloa Cartel’.
Details of the couple’s alleged relationship and marriage are scant, which is understandable given the secretive nature of the Sinaloa Cartel’s business. Perhaps we know more about Ovid’s private life due to his recent arrest.
