Jim and Katie Leyland have been married for almost three decades. They are happy to be parents of two children. Jim Leyland is a retired American professional baseball manager and former player who was born on December 15, 1944. Katie O’Connor, the daughter of an ironmonger and a homemaker, was about to complete a master’s degree in sports administration when she was hired as the Pirates’ events coordinator in 1986.
Katie met Jim Leyland, who was recently divorced, while she was with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jim was attracted to Katie from the start and felt that he wanted to pursue a relationship with her. Jim Leyland, the legendary Major League Baseball manager, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday night. He was given the honor by a 16-member group known as the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee for Managers, Executives, and Umpires, which meets every three years. Leyland received 15 votes out of a possible 16. Former player and manager Lou Piniella just missed being inducted into the Hall of Fame for the second time, falling short by one vote.
On Sunday night, the Hall of Fame announced the voting results. Leyland shared the sweet moment after receiving the call, tweeting a photo of himself in his bedroom with wife Katie. He finished his managerial career with a regular season record of 1,769-1,728 (.506) and a playoff record of 44-40 (.524). Before becoming a manager, he played seven seasons in minor league baseball as a catcher and third baseman from 1964 to 1970.
