Anita Pointer became famous as the originator of The Pointer Sisters.

Anita, born January 23, 1948, is a member of the group The Pointer Sisters, formed in 1970. Some of the group’s early singles were not well received, but one of them, Send Him Back , has become a classic. The group’s debut album, released in 1973, immediately failed to reach the top of the Billboard charts. That’s a Plenty was released the following year, while Steppin’ was released in 1975. Their fourth album, Have a Party, was also successful, peaking at number 176 on the US Billboard Top LP and number one. 51 on the US Billboard Top Soul LP.

In 1976, they released The Best of the Pointer Sisters, a compilation album. In 1978, the trio signed to Planet Records and released the album Energy. Priority, their sixth album, was released in 1979. The group rose to prominence in the 1980s, with hits like He’s So Shy, Slow Hand, Automatic, Jump (For My Love), Neutron Dance, and others. Another entered the top Billboard chart. They left Planet Records and went on to release a number of commercially unsuccessful projects.
