Bake It ‘Til You Make It contestant Kareem Queeman has been passionate about baking since childhood.

When he was 8 years old, the Bake It ‘Til You Make It cast member discovered his passion for baking and all the goodies. His grandmother supported him, and with her help, he signed up for the high school housewife program. Until high school, he sold cakes to friends and classmates, which awakened his entrepreneurial spirit.

He went on to study culinary arts in New York before being hired to help launch Fluffy Thought Cakes in McLean. That was followed by helping start Crumbs Bakery in Washington, DC. All of this helped him acquire the skills he needed to start his own bakery, which he did in 2008.

The Maryland baker has participated in many cooking shows, including Beat Bobby Flay, Bake It Like Buddy, and Sugar Rush Christmas. In an interview with The Washington Post, the cast of Bake It’ Til You Make It talked about how difficult it was to get on the show and why he still does. He said that he purposely put himself on the podium so others could see him.

He continued:

“So other people who identify with me, black, brown and LGBTQ, can say, I want to be on this show and I can be myself. That’s what motivated me the most. “

In a November 2022 interview with Buffer, the Bake It ‘Til You Make It star said, “I used to be scared to show my LGBT, black identity in my profession.” That is until he discovers the importance of being honest while showing support to those in his community.

He continued:

“As a black gay man with aspirations of becoming a professional baker, I worried that my identity would hold me back. I have never seen anyone like me in the food business.”

He continued:

“When I first started working in professional kitchens, I simply wanted to be seen as someone who was committed to learning and growing, not being ‘different’ because of my gender or burdened by other challenges. Negative stereotypes sometimes apply to black people.”

Mr. Bake will now appear on Food Network’s Bake It ‘Til You Make It, which premieres December 26 at 9 p.m. ET.
