Vishwa Deendayalan was a talented Indian table tennis player, who brought fame to the country by winning many national and international level competitions. He was India’s top level under-19 table tennis player. He died on 17 April 2022 when the taxi in which he was traveling; Along with 3 other players, was hit by a 12 wheeler truck in Ri-Bhoi district of Shillong, Meghalaya.

According to some sources Vishwa Deenadayalan was born on Sunday, 4 January 2004 and according to some sources, he was born on Thursday, 1 April 2004 (age 18 at the time of death) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. After completing his schooling at Jayagopal Garodiya Vivekananda Vidyalaya HSS, he joined Loyola College, Chennai. There he was studying B.Com in the first year of graduation.

As a young boy, Vishwa Deenadayalan had shown keen interest in the field of table tennis, as a result of which, his father admitted him to the Krishnaswamy Table Tennis Club in Chennai. During his initial phase of training, Vishwa was given intensive training by two famous faces from the world of table tennis, Ramnath Prasad and Jai Prabhu Ram. As the world’s prowess in table tennis grew, he became a member of the famous Tamizhaga Table Tennis Association (TTTA) state men’s team. Vishwa had reached the pre-quarters at the Hyderabad Nationals in 2019 with his mixed doubles partner Selena Deepti. Vishwa was selected as a part of the Tamizhaga Table Tennis Association (TTTA) state men’s team for the 83rd Senior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Competition in Shillong. Selection for the Shillong team was not that easy for Vishwas, as he had to defeat another top player, Malesh Kumar, in the selection matches.

Vishwa was an excellent player, due to his skills, he was selected to be a part of the Indian team that will represent the country at the Under-19 World Table Tennis Youth Contenders in Linz, Austria. The international tournament was to start on 27 April 2022.

Death

On 17 April 2022, Vishwa Deendayalan was on his way to Shillong from Guwahati Airport to participate in the 83rd Senior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Competition. He was traveling in a taxi with three other players; When the taxi collided with a 12 wheeler truck on National Highway – 6. With the help of the local people, the budding player was immediately taken to a local civil hospital in Nongpoh, where he was declared dead on arrival.

M. Nithyashree, a TTTA female paddler, said in an interview,

The entire team of TTTA (men and women) left Guwahati airport around 12.30-1245 pm on Sunday afternoon in three different cars. When our car reached the spot, we saw that our coach Jai Prabhu Ram and some local people were rescuing our paddlers from the accident site. There were no injury marks on Vishwa. We kept shouting his name hoping he would open his eyes, but there was no response from him. Then a medical student or doctor also tried to perform CPR. He was then quickly taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance.”

    My sister (Raveena) used to play this game and I liked it immediately.
