In AMC’s new supernatural series, Mayfair Witches, actor Tongayi Chirisa plays Ciprien Grieve. Ciprien is believed to be a fictional character created for the show and does not appear in the original Anne Rice book trilogy. He will play a key role in Mayfair Witches. Tongayi Chirisa is a famous Zimbabwean actor who has been in various shows over the years including Crusoe, The Jim Gaffigan Show and others. The new series launches on AMC on January 8, 2023.

Tongayi Chirisa was born on August 8, 1981 in Harare, Zimbabwe. Chirisa seems to have spent her early years in Harare. He attended Lomagundi College before graduating from AFDA in South Africa with a Bachelor of Live Performance. Tongayi Chirisa’s first role was in the TV series Studio 263, where he played detective Trevor Davis. He went on to perform small roles in many feature films and short films including Tanyaradzwa, Ace of Hearts and Skin to name a few.
His biggest television foray was on NBC’s Crusoe. He played Man Friday in the musical and audiences praised his performance. Other notable TV appearances include The Jim Gaffigan Show, Another Life, iZombie, and others. Tongayi Chirisa told PopCulture.com in an interview about his character on AMC’s Mayfair Witches that Ciprien is an “empath”. He stated (via PopCulture.com),
“I believe it is possible to be sensitive to such emotions because you are witnessing the lives of others through touch. I think one of the things I like the most about it is that it highlights the person he is, and at the same time allows the public to understand a lot about human history through his perspective and how it affects him. How is that?”

The Witches of Mayfair centers on Dr. Rowan Fielding, who discovers that she is part of a powerful family of wizards, which completely changes her life. According to AMC, here is the official synopsis of the show:
“Neurosurgeon Rowan Fielding has a problem: she kills with her thoughts when she’s angry. Her search for answers leads her to her mysterious biological family. Deirdre Mayfair. longing to escape her aunt’s sweltering mansion in New Orleans.
Alexandra Daddario plays Rowan Fielding in the series and has been praised by critics for her performance since the first episode aired on January 8, 2023. Many additional cast members include Jack Huston as Lasher , Tongayi Chiris as Ciprien Grieve, Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair and Annabeth Gish as Deirdre Mayfair appeared in supporting roles alongside Daddario.
The series is based on the highly acclaimed trilogy titled The Lives of the Mayfair Witches by acclaimed author Anne Rice. Mayfair Witch is available on AMC+.
