Chicago Med star Marlyne Barrett revealed she was diagnosed with cancer after doctors discovered a large tumor in her uterus and left ovary in July of this year. Barrett pointed out that she keeps her personal life private, but feels it’s her responsibility this time around to share this story, saying:
“When my character was diagnosed with breast cancer, I had a lot of people contact me on social media.” They have given me strength and I feel encouraged to meet their hearts where they have met mine.”
Barrett also added that she wants to “inspire others to feel comfortable sharing anything,” adding that most people are afraid to face the term “cancer.” or even say it, but they have more power than they realize.

In July this year, doctors discovered a large tumor on her ovaries and uterus, making her “shocked” because her family had no history of uterine and ovarian cancer.
Barrett stated:
“I didn’t believe them at first, but when they showed me the CT scan, I was like, ‘Oh my God’.” ‘Will I survive?’ is one of the first queries. I just fell into my husband’s arms. When I think about it, it still takes my breath away.”
Doctors advised her to undergo chemotherapy, followed by a hysterectomy. They also informed her that she was going to lose her hair, to which Barrett replied that, despite the fact that “hair was essential to her beauty”, she “got a razor and shaved her head first” the faces of my children.” Marlyne Barrett, who works for Chicago Med despite some health issues, notes that she occasionally naps and takes days off to keep her energy levels in check, adding:
“Because of the size of the cast, my middle class is different in size, so the costume designer did a great job.” To my surprise, my character on the show is already wearing a wig! My job now gives me great satisfaction. It’s a relief to be able to focus on anything but “When’s my next chemo?” and “How will I hug my children?”
She was preparing for her third round of chemotherapy in Los Angeles, taking everything “once a day”.
