This New Zealand town is being terrorized by drivers who shoot Celine Dione from their cars

The New Zealand town of Porirua is calling for action after being plagued by these flamboyant music enthusiasts.

People are causing havoc in Porirua neighborhoods by putting speakers in their cars and playing Céline Dion hits in what they call “siren battles”.

These battles are part of a local subculture known as “siren kings,” where people compete to have the loudest and clearest sound.

Those caught up in the competition often use a lot of industrial speakers and sirens. They then drive through New Zealand city neighborhoods or play music from parking lots.

But now the locals have had enough.

According to Porirua Mayor Anita Baker, residents are unable to sleep due to the ongoing competition that encourages young people to blast music at all hours of the night.

“We need to find an alternative place for these people to go or they’re going to have to stop,” Baker said.

Local resident Wes Gaarkeuken has filed a petition urging the Mermaid Kings to cease their activities. It has already reached 290 of its goal of 500 signatures.

The petition says the following:

“Enough is enough. Porirua City Council must act and stop the car gathering with loud music and emergency siren noises at all hours of the night.

“Taxpayers are tired of the inaction and disdain shown by the city council and mayor regarding this issue.

“Disruptions to the peace must be enforced and taxpayers deserve better from their city council.”

Those who participate in this trend use Céline Dion’s music because it is clear, has strong highs and less lows.

Amid the battles occurring both downtown and uptown, several residents have expressed their frustrations and concerns to Baker.

The mayor continued: “It’s vibrating throughout the city wherever they do it because we are in a watershed. “It’s really frustrating.”

Diana Paris left a comment on the petition’s Change.org account:

“I am tired of the disturbance of peace that sometimes lasts for hours. While I enjoy listening to Céline Dion in the comfort of my living room and at my volume, I don’t enjoy listening to snippets of her that stop and start anytime between 7pm and 2am.”

What a strange trend happening in New Zealand there!
