Golden Globes host Jo Koy has some defenders in his corner. The view Presenters criticize Taylor Swift for how she reacted to a playful jab from the comedian during the ceremony.
During the ceremony, Koy poked fun at the singer’s recent visits to NFL stadiums to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce. “As you know, we arrived after a double football game. The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes we have less camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear,” she said.
Cue a particularly icy shot of Swift sipping her drink. Swifties’ reaction was quick, with several people yelling at the host for the jab. The view Host Sara Haines believes Swift’s reaction may have played a role. She encouraged Swift to be a little more cheerful, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“I love Jo Koy and I was nervous about him the whole time because I think he’s so funny. He’s kind, he’s good, everything. “What bothers me the most when watching this is having a sense of humor, because we need to protect these national treasures called our comedians, because life needs them,” he said. “We need to stop tying them up, fencing them off. In that room, Jo Koy is banging. Nobody feels sorry. Just smile.”

It wasn’t just Haines who came to Koy’s defense. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg also supported the comedian following the backlash. Goldberg is no stranger to hosting duties, having previously hosted the Oscars herself.
As such, Goldberg had a unique perspective on the incident. She believes rooms like this can be especially difficult for comedians. It’s not easy for a comedian to crush her jokes.
“These concerts, these hosting concerts are brutal. They are simply brutal. “If you don’t know the room, if you haven’t been in these rooms before and they shove you in there, it’s unpredictable,” Goldberg said. “I don’t know if it was the room or the jokes, I couldn’t see it, but I do know that he’s so good when it comes to monologues. It’s not an easy job. “If you read any of the reviews of some of the gigs I’ve had, where they just wanted me to go into the cornfields, die on the vine, it’s not an easy gig.”
