Tennon’s journey into theater and television began at a young age. His English teacher helped him recognize that he was a naturally gifted artist. Tennon’s first public performance came at the age of 14 in front of his school assembly. Tennon eventually became the first African American to graduate from the school’s drama program. According to the University of Tulsa website, Julius loved theater for its unpredictability;
“Anything can happen, and that’s the joy of theater for me.”
Julius wasted no time when he got out of college. He started his acting career with roles in movies like river bend, Adam: his song continues, hard promisesand The man who broke 1000 chains. Tennon also appeared in various shows including, lonely dove and John Jakes’ Heaven and Hell: North and South, Part III.
Tennon has numerous acting credits and is also a talented producer. Some of the films he has produced include Night shift, lilac and eve, At the border, american kokoand Custody. Tennon’s many accomplishments have made him one of the most respected figures in Hollywood.
He met Viola three weeks after she had prayed for a couple.
In the early 2000s, Viola Davis was a lonely woman. She couldn’t find the man she wanted. Like most of us would, she turned to a friend for advice. Instead of connecting her with a man, Viola’s friend told her to pray for the man she wanted. According page six Viola said;
“I said I wanted a big black man from the South who looked like a football player, who already had kids, who might have been married before.”
Viola’s prayer worked, and after three weeks she met Tennon. viola said us weekly;
“He was the anesthesiologist, Dr. Holly, and I was Nurse Lannett. We were spilling blood in a scene. She knew how lonely she was. She was in Los Angeles and she hated him and he said, ‘I’ll show you Los Angeles. I’ll show you the Santa Monica pier.”
Tennon tried to cheer Viola up and gave her his card. However, Viola was embarrassed by her bad credit and she waited several weeks before calling Julius. The couple had their first date at a church. According to Viola, Tennon was completely open about her past and it terrified her a bit. At the end of the date, Davis couldn’t believe how loving and romantic Tennon was.
In an episode of OWN black loveDavis revealed that Tennon called her twenty minutes after he dropped her off;
“I said, ‘Did you get home yet?’ He said, ‘No, I’m at Ralph’s down the road, but I just wanted to tell you again what a great time I had and how beautiful you are.‘”
After about 20 minutes, Tennon called again;
“He called back: ‘I just want to tell you that I came home and that you are a beautiful woman. I’m about to go to sleep, and I just wanted to say have a good night.”
Tennon and Viola dated for 4 years before getting married in 2003.
Tennon and Viola want to give voice to the disenfranchised of Hollywood
Tennon and Viola rarely appear together on screen, but they are working hard behind the scenes to increase diversity in Hollywood. As one of Hollywood’s power couples, Tennon and Viola plan to use their influence to provide opportunities for a more diverse group of people.
Tennon said the following while talking to The Guardian;
“When I go to meetings, it’s usually not the African Americans I talk to about getting the green light for something. The people at the top are going to make decisions about how to try to make systemic change. That’s the only way it’s going to happen: by creating a pipeline of opportunity for people to go in there, through it and out and start being a part of what’s at the top… We consider ourselves the voice of those who don’t Don’t have a voice?”
Tennon and Viola formed JuVee Productions in 2011 to address the issue of diversity at the grassroots level. In an email sent to The GuardianViola explained how to approach the issue of diversity;
“It’s a problem to be addressed by studio heads who greenlight filmmakers who can simply envision a different role, by producers who may give a talented filmmaker in the making a chance, by a writer of color, and ultimately by audiences. spend money to see a movie. character in a different way. Tennon currently directs most of his time at JuVee Production. For him and Viola, his production studio is about giving a chance to all kinds of actors in Hollywood, not just black ones.

Before meeting Viola, Tennon had two children by two different couples. Tennon exposed everything about her past relationships during her first meeting with Davis. Tennon and Viola took responsibility for raising their children and are now blessed with seven grandchildren.

Eight years after getting married, Tennon and Viola decided to adopt a child. They adopted a girl, whom they named Genesis. The couple is determined to give their daughter a better chance at success than when they were younger. “She said, ‘No matter what people say, keep going,’ and I’m going to take that advice.”
I was a little skeptical about Viola’s Emmy speech.
When Viola became the first black woman to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, she delivered one of the most memorable speeches in Emmy Award history. However, at the start of the speech, Tennon was not comfortable with Viola’s message. Viola told Ellen DeGeneres;
“My husband said afterwards: ‘V, I didn’t know where you were going with that.’ I really didn’t. When you were saying ‘those white women with their arms outstretched over the line,’ I was like, ‘What is he doing?‘
Fortunately for Tennon, the speech went well in the end.
